Expansion of idea

Expansion of Idea:-

What is Expansion of Idea?

Expansion of an idea means taking a short phrase, proverb, saying, or moral and explaining it in detail with examples, reasoning, and a conclusion. It helps us to understand the deeper meaning and apply it in real life.

In an expansion:

  • Explain the meaning of the idea.
  • Give examples or stories to support it.
  • End with a conclusion or moral message.

Expansion of idea

--------------------------------------------------

Activity No.1

Expand the following idea in about 100/150 words with the help of the points given below:

Honesty is the best policy

Answer-

The saying "Honesty is the best policy" means that being truthful and sincere is always the right path in life. An honest person earns trust and respect from others. Although lying may bring temporary success, in the long run, it creates problems.

For example, in exams, if a student cheats and gets high marks, they may be happy for a moment. But later, when real knowledge is required, they will struggle. On the other hand, an honest student who works hard and studies sincerely may take longer to succeed, but their success will be solid and lasting.

In society too, honesty builds strong relationships. A businessperson who is honest gains loyal customers. A friend who speaks the truth earns trust.

Thus, honesty may not always be the easiest way, but it is always the right and most rewarding one. That is why we say, "Honesty is the best policy."

Activity No.2 (Sept. 2021 Board Activity)

Expand the following idea in about 100/150 words with the help of the points given below:

'All is well that Ends well.

- Well begun is just half done

- It's all about the finishing touch

- Patience and perseverance are always counted

- Happy ending leads to satisfaction

Answer-

All is well that Ends well.

The idea – ‘All is well that Ends well’ means that no matter how one arrived at a certain outcome, if that outcome is a good one, everything is alright. No matter how many challenges were faced in order to achieve a goal, if that goal has been achieved and is a good one, the whole process is justified. The idea is based on the principle that if a good result is achieved, it does not matter what was done in order to achieve that result.

Anyone can feel ‘all’s well that ends well’. A person passes an exam after plenty of very tiring and long studying. For him or her ‘all’s well that ends well’. Someone marries the love of their life after years of separation and challenges. He or she can say ‘all’s well that ends well.’ Old friends reconcile after an argument, and the preceding argument is forgotten as a result of the reconciliation. Here ‘all’s well that ends well.’ One of the robbers had a change of heart and helped the police to catch the culprit. So, all’s well that ends well.”

I had studied hard during the whole year when I was in the tenth standard. But before exam, unfortunately, I faced an accident. So I couldn’t concentrate on my study. Despite this, after the exam when result came, I was the topper in the class. So, I felt at that time that- all’s well that ends well.”

This proverb helps us to think positively. If we are in the midst of a challenging time, remembering this proverb can motivate us to keep going towards the happy ending.

My opinion here is that well begun is just half done. But to complete it in happy note is the real win. It's all about the finishing touch which makes us happy. Patience and perseverance are always counted so be ready for it. Happy ending leads to satisfaction so make every ending happy. It’s the real – All’s well that ends well.

Activity No. 3

Expand the following idea in about 100/150 words with the help of the points given below:

'A Friend in need is a friend indeed'.

- Meaning

- Example

- Moral

- Your opinion about the idea

Answer-

A friend in NEED is a friend INDEED
The above proverb tells us the role of a true friend in our life. There are many friends in our life who always accompany us in our good times but as the time changes they run away from us.  On the contrary, a true friend walks in when all other walk away from us in our need.
The merit of a true friend is judged on the basis of his/her role in our life in prosperity rather in adversity.  I had the same experience in my life. Once, my father failed to transfer the exam fees in time. As a result, I was not able to fill the exam form. I discussed   my problem with a few close friends, but none of the responded positively. I was bit tense. At the same time, Rahul came and handed over me a receipt of fees which he paid without my notice.  It was a great relief for me in such need. That day, I realized that true friend is one who helps you in your need. I gave a tight hug to him as a friend in NEED is a friend INDEED.
The lesson I learn from the proverb is to distinguish between a true friend and a flattering foe.
I like the idea very much as it gives true concept of real friends. So I will keep only those friends who are ready to help me in my need and I also want to be their true friend helping them in their need.

Activity No. 4

Expand the following idea in about 100/150 words with the help of the points given below:

'Manners maketh man'-

Answer-

Model answer written by-

Prof. Vaishali Jane

“Manners maketh man”

Manners are very important in human life. We should always remember that Manners maketh (makes) man.

What do manners mean? Manners mean saying ‘Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening’- it means greeting at someone when you see someone, smiling at someone, being kind to someone, graceful in look and behaviour and so on. Manners constitute not only outward appearance but also good conduct. Manners play a very vital role in building our personality

Manners reflect our character and character is one of the factors of our personality. A good personality is not known to one's outward appearance or the dress one wears, but it is known to his behaviour and way of speaking. It gives good impression in front of others.

E.g Let's recall that person in a crowded bus who willingly offers his /her seat to a co-passenger. We all appreciate such deed. It means the well-mannered person is always appreciated. Let's take another example of Hitler, a famous dictator of Germany. Because of his troubled childhood and bad experiences with Jews, he became a tyrant in History. And he is condemned because of his ill-mannered behaviour. The example of Hitler shows that family background and one's nurturing also affect one's character and manners. And ill-mannered person is disliked or hated by everyone.

Life is a journey where we meet many people. It depends on our behaviour whether people stay with us or leave us. If we are well mannered, we will become the centre of attraction. So, we should speak politely, be courteous, be helpful to others, use golden words such as please, thank you, welcome, excuse me, sorry etc. as per the situation. These are the things that we have to do under the word ‘manners’.

Thus manners play a significant role in man's life without which man can never be a complete man. So, this has been aptly summed up when we say, 'Manners Maketh Man'.

Activity No. 5

Expand the following idea in about 100/150 words with the help of the points given below:

“A stitch in time saves nine.” Explain the concept, give examples, give your opinion about the concept.

Answer-

"A stitch in time saves nine" is a proverb that emphasizes the importance of taking timely and preventive action to solve the problems before they increase. This timeless piece of wisdom underscores the value of proactive measures to avoid larger and more complicated issues in the future.

Imagine a scenario where a small tear appears on the seam of a piece of clothing. If you promptly stitch it up, you prevent the tear from expanding. Ultimately you save yourself from the hassle of dealing with a much larger hole later. The same principle can be applied to various aspects of life.

In the context of personal relationships, addressing minor misunderstandings or conflicts early on can prevent them from turning into deep-seated issues. Communication and resolution at the initial stage can maintain the fabric of the relationship, avoiding the need for extensive repair work in the future.

In a professional setting, a proactive approach to problem-solving can prevent small workplace challenges from evolving into major disruptions.

Ultimately, "a stitch in time saves nine" serves as a reminder to be vigilant, proactive, and attentive to the small details in various aspects of life. It gives good message to all.

------------------------------------------------------

Activity No. 5

Expand the following idea in about 100/150 words with the help of the points given below:

‘Honesty is the best policy.’

a) Importance of honesty.

b) Explain the concept.

c) Give supporting examples.

d) Conclusion

Answer-

‘Honesty is the best policy’ is a worth proverb. It teaches us that when fell in a difficult situation, it is always better to tell the truth rather than lying. The term ‘policy’ in the proverb implies that honesty should be followed as a principle no matter how hard and challenging the situation.

Honesty does not simply mean being truthful to us and others, but also being truthful in one’s work, words, and actions in every walk of life. Being honest makes a person trustworthy and such a person gets respect in society.

One of the greatest leaders of India, Mahatma Gandhiji, was an important preacher of honesty. He firmly believed in accepting one’s mistakes while being honest. Lies bring temporary joy and benefit but the truth cannot be suppressed for long and is bound to surface in time.

One lie starts a never-ending chain of lies. It is difficult to break. This deprives a dishonest person of the small joys in life like a night’s peaceful sleep. On the other hand, an honest person will enjoy each and every moment of his life. So, I also firmly believe that honesty is the best way to live good and peaceful life.

------------------------------------------------------

Activity No. 6

Expand the following idea in about 100/150 words with the help of the points given below:

"Where there is a will, there is a way"

Answer-

The proverb "Where there is a will, there is a way" means that if we are determined and have strong willpower, we can find a solution to any problem and achieve our goals. Difficulties may come, but a person with strong determination never gives up.

History is full of examples of people who succeeded because of their willpower. Take the example of Helen Keller, who was blind and deaf from a young age. Yet, with her strong will and the help of her teacher, she learned to read, write, and became a famous author and speaker.

Another example is Mahatma Gandhi, who had the will to free India from British rule. Through non-violence and patience, he led the country to independence. His determination made the impossible possible.

So, whenever we feel like giving up, we must remember that strong will can create a way forward. No matter how hard the situation, if our will is strong, success will surely follow.

Thus, it is rightly said, "Where there is a will, there is a way."

3.2 Mind Mapping

3.2 Mind Mapping

What is Mind Mapping?

1) A mind map is a graphical way to represent ideas and concepts.

माइंड मॅपिंग हा दृष्य आयोजकांचा एक प्रकार आहे जो कल्पना आणि संकल्पना संयोजित करण्यासाठी आकृतीचा वापर करतो.

2) It is a visual thinking tool that helps structuring information, helping you to better analyze, comprehend, synthesize, recall and generate new ideas.

हे दृश्यमान विचारांचे साधन आहे जे आपल्याला नवीन कल्पनांचे अधिक चांगले विश्लेषण, आकलन, संश्लेषण, आठवणे आणि तयार करण्यात मदत करते.

3) The central idea or concept is placed in the center of the diagram, and then related ideas are added to it in a radial fashion.

मध्यवर्ती कल्पना किंवा संकल्पना आकृतीच्या मध्यभागी ठेवली जाते आणि नंतर संबंधित कल्पना त्यात एकामागून एक अशा जोडल्या जातात.

4) When writing, the main concept and other related ideas should be shown with the help of lines. Use tables, frames, lines, etc. where ever necessary. Create a complete diagram of Mind Mapping as per the given main concept.

Steps for developing Mind Mapping

Mind mapping is a visual method that enables you to connect concepts, ideas, and data in a nonlinear way. It can be useful for taking notes, coming up with ideas, solving problems, and studying. The stages to making a mind map are as follows:

1. Begin with the main concept or central theme: On a whiteboard or blank page, write it in the middle. Use one word or a brief sentence to capture the essence of the topic you want to investigate or discuss.

2. Create primary branches: Draw many lines extending outward from the focal theme to resemble branches. The main category, theme, or subtopic associated with the main idea is represented by one of the lines. Each line should be marked with a word or phrase that best describes the category.

3. Add secondary branches: Extend additional lines from each primary branch to form secondary branches. These branches stand for more specialised facets, notions, or subgroups associated with the main branches. Each secondary branch should be marked with a pertinent word or phrase.

4. Use single words or brief phrases to capture thoughts and concepts rather than lengthy sentences or paragraphs. You can also use visuals. This keeps the mind map brief and pleasant to the eye. Simple illustrations or symbols can also be used to illustrate ideas or improve comprehension visually.

5. Find links and correlations between various branches and themes by connecting and relating thoughts. To show how ideas are related or how one concept leads to another, connect them using lines or arrows. This makes the relationships and interdependence between different pieces easier to see.

6. Highlight crucial points and emphasise the hierarchy of ideas by changing the font size, colour, or style of the text. To make the mind map easier to traverse and understand, use thicker lines or different colours for key branches in comparison to sub-branches.

7. Keep it organic and adaptable; mind mapping is a dynamic and creative process, so let your ideas flow freely. As new ideas surface, feel free to add, change, or reorganise the branches and connections. The mind map's layout should be flexible and adaptive to new ideas.

8. Once you've finished creating your mind map, take some time to evaluate and edit it. Ensure that the ties and connections between ideas are logical and obvious. If required, change the formatting or layout to improve readability and coherence.

Remember: -

Always keep in mind that the goal of a mind map is to inspire creativity, encourage a comprehensive comprehension of a subject, and facilitate the generation of new ideas. Try out several designs, particular shade of colour, and layouts to see what appeals to you and how you like to think.

Std. XI - Model Annual Activity Sheet

Annual Exam- Model Activity Sheet

Std. 11th     Sub.- English       Marks-80
------------------------------------------------------

Section I – Prose

Q.1 (A)  Read the extract and complete the activities given below.   (12)

Tiger Hill towers majestically above all other mountaintops in its vicinity. Although located almost 10 kilometers north of the Srinagar-Kargil-Leh highway, the enemy position on this mountaintop dominated parts of this highway. After the recapture of Tololing and the adjacent features, evicting the enemy from this well-fortified position became a priority.
As the sharp triangular top of Tiger Hill was clearly visible from the highway, and appeared almost impossible to capture, the media had projected the entire episode as a national challenge.
Brigadier M.P.S. Bajwa, commander, 192 Mountain Brigade, assigned the mission of capturing Tiger Hill to 18 grenadiers, now rested and recouped after their achievements at Tololing and Hump, and to 8 Sikh, which was already deployed at its base. Both these units were assisted by a crack team from the High Altitude Warfare School, with maximum possible artillery, engineering and other combat support.
Throughout the last week of June 1999, 18 Grenadiers probed to establish the extent of the enemy’s defenses and to scout for suitable routes for the assault. A simultaneous multidirectional assault emerged as the best strategy. The commanding officer of 41 Field Regiment drew up an elaborate artillery fire plan. Individual guns were ranged so as to cover each objective. Bofors guns were used in a direct firing role once again, with inspiring accuracy. On the day of the assault, nearly 120 field and medium guns, 122-mm multibarrelled Grad rocket launchers and mortars rained death and destruction on the enemy at Tiger Hill. The Air Force, too, targeted Tiger Hill on 2-3 July, and hit the bull’s eye several times during its missions.
For the first time in India’s military history, a TV channel covered the battle live: a sign of progress and transparency, not to mention the on-screen depiction of confidence. The Tiger Hill feature extends about 2200 meters from west to east and about 1000 meters north to south. The main extension is towards the west, on which there are two prominent protrusions. The first, approximately 500 meters west of Tiger Hill, had been named ‘India Gate’, and the second, ‘Helmet’ (located another 300 meters away). Approximately one company of 12 Northern Light Infantry (Pakistan) held the whole feature.

I have mentioned the names of some of the great ones of those times. One of the greatest of these, I have not yet mentioned. His name was Socrates. He was a philosopher, always searching for truth. To him, the only thing worth having was truth and he often discussed difficult questions with his friends and acquaintances, so that out of the discussions truth might emerge. He had many disciples or chelas, and the greatest of these was Plato. Plato wrote many books which have come down to us, and it is from these books that we know a great deal of his master, Socrates. Evidently, governments do not like people who are always trying to find out things: they don`t like the search for truth. The Athenian Government- this was just after the time of Pericles- did not like the method of Socrates, and they held a trial and condemned him to death. They told him that if he promised to give up his discussions with people and changed his ways they would let him off. But he refused to do so, and prepared the cup of poison, which brought him death, to giving up what he considered his duty.

Sitting in a porch way cool,
Sunlight, I see, dying fast,
Twilight hastens on to rule.
Working hours have well-nigh past.
Shadows run across the lands:
But a sower lingers still,
Old, in rags, he patient stands.
Looking on, I feel a thrill.
Black and high, his silhouette
Dominates the furrows deep!
Now to sow the task is set.
Soon shall come a time to reap.
Marches he along the plain
To and fro, and scatters wide
From his hands the precious grain;
Muse I, as I see him stride.
Darkness deepens. Fades the light.
Now his gestures to mine eyes
Are august; and strange; his height
Seems to touch the starry skies

'Again would your lordship a moment suppose,
('Tis a case that has happened, and may be again)
That the visage or countenance had not a Nose,
Pray who would, or who could, wear spectacles then?

'On the whole it appears, and my argument shows,
With a reasoning the court will never condemn,
That the spectacles plainly were made for the Nose,
And the Nose was as plainly intended for them.'

Then shifting his side, as a lawyer knows how,
He pleaded again in behalf of the Eyes:
But what were his arguments few people know,
For the court did not think they were equally wise,
