Discusses topics : Is there need of A,B,C,D Sets and Oral exam?

Discusses topics

Prof. Tushar Chavan, Rashtriya Jr.College,
Chalisgaon Dist. Jalgaon

1) Is there any need of A, B, C, D activity sheet sets for English in the coming HSC board exam?

2) Oral exam should be removed or not from the evaluation of Std. XI and XII.

All are requested to share your views freely on these topics.

Jr. College English Teachers’ Group 1

Prof.D.G.Patil
Sir, I think there shouldn't be need of A, B, C, D pattern of activity sheet and also oral shouldn't be removed.

Prof.Kiran Kulkarni
I think there is no need of A,B,C,D sets in English and Oral Exam shouldn't be there. 100 marks Question Paper should be there in board exam for English.

Prof. Vlias Borse
We don't need ABCD sets but ORAL EXAM should be there. Our students speak Marathi or Hindi in their day - today life but they don't have that much scope to speak English. If authority continues oral for our students, they will practice speaking & motivated to speak elsewhere.

Prof.D.G.Patil
They have stopped ABCD sets & no oral exam will be there for SSC. I think they will continue the same pattern. But it's an injustice with the subject like English. As a foreign language we should have this tool to evaluate the speaking skill of our students.

Prof.Dr.Ganesh Agarwal
I have a doubt about all this... if you are looking 4 student's benefits then giving 20 marks under oral exam is useless... what do have analyze in speaking skill? Here people are only talking about 5 % students who can read and speak in English? Majority of d students from Maharashtra are from Rural Area. Think about it. Actually evaluation must be on detail study of the course book. MCQ based... and old pattern....

Prof. Prashant Bagul
There is no need of A B C D activity sets because it’s very difficult to maintain same difficulty level for these four sets. Oral Exam is need of this age. It is through this tool we can judge communicative skill of our students.

Prof.Kale Madam
Sir, I think oral exams are necessary. The change should be come from 1st std. not 10th.11th std. student is unable to make proper construction & expression in English. Oral is support material. Its impact on results. ABCD activity sheet are useful for prohibited copy in the class. We should give oral marks as per talent of student.

Prof.Sanjay Jadhav
I think there is no need of ABCD Sets as it is activity sheet. In new pattern, Oral exam must be compulsory but instead of marks, Grades like A B C D should be given. Minimum C grade should be obtained in English to pass the Exam.

Prof.Kailas Patil, Chopada
I think that there is no need a set ABCD because now questions are based on activities about oral test, it’s must, teacher can test student's knowledge about skill of language.

Jr. College English Teachers’ Group 2

Prof.Sunil Bhamre
If we consider this curriculum as skill based then for the evaluations of four skills Oral Test is necessary.

Prof.Sajjad Ahmad Khan, Patur, Akola
A B C D pattern will be excluded from FEB 2019 for HSC.
No Oral exam from 2020 for std. 11 and 2021for std. 12.
New text book of Std.11 Based on Activity based format will be launched from 2019- 20

Prof.Mansoor Sir
In my opinion there is no need of A B C D pattern for only English subject as per new pattern as it is stressing to students and whole system of HSC exam. Make it simple stress free.
Oral exam is essential to judge the language Skills.

Prof.Bhadane Sir, Nimgaon Malegaon
Oral exam should continue, useful for students. ABCD pattern has not needed.
I really have a strong objection for this A,B,C,D pattern. Why did the board introduce it for ONLY ENGLISH?
If copy cases was the reason, then what about other languages and subjects? Subjects like Economics, S.P., OC and Geography etc., there are objective questions which hardly require  last 5 to 10 mins for students to copy/ cross check and all. Mostly students never write the answers of these objective questions in the beginning although they fall in the first 3 questions in the question papers. Why only in English we teachers follow that A,B,C,D pattern?
Even in assessments and moderation we follow strictly the rules like bifurcation of marks and minimizing of marks? Isn't it a kind of injustice to students and teachers too. I myself had watched the people of other subjects and even languages allotting and moderating marks without bifurcation.
As far as orals ate concerned, they are a must. But there is also injustice to students. In the classes of orals, we strictly allot marks based on the skills of the innocent students who are present with at least some preparation. What happens to us when we assess the orals of the students who appear in the last days of record submissions? Do we check their abilities thoroughly? What about those students who appear in the July board exams? Are we so serious at that time too? Is this the way are we just to all?

Prof. Vijay Pawar, Vile Parle, Mumbai
I can understand that there should not be copy case anywhere. But if I go through the writing skills of other boards like Nashik, Amaravati etc., the students hardly can read and write properly. Still getting decent marks in all subjects including English. But when it comes to Mumbai board, every CM and Moderator, including me, becomes strict for rules. As if they had the power to bend the juniors.
Copying in examinations must be eradicated. But thoroughly including all subjects and all boards plus all over the country.
To cite an example, one of my students from Bihar had started her education from std. XI Commerce. She did neither go to school nor did she attempt any board paper till Std. X th passing with 73%.
 It's the fact.

Prof. Gulhane
I feel strongly that there is no need of ABCD sets. Better that would have excluded till now. Let’s oppose it in large number. Orals and project work be continued.

Jr. College English Teachers’ Group 3

Prof.Pravin Rode
There should be A B C D activity sheet. It will create difficulty level for the students. It will even make them more meticulous.
Oral exam should not be there. The very purpose of the exam is exiled. It does not help students.

Prof.Satish Bhonde
Oral exam should be removed.

Prof.Sachin Hawaldar
I feel the same about A B C D activity sheets but oral exams should be there. It helps students to develop L S R W skills. It is the basic of any language. Its implementation should be somewhat like science practical. There should be external examiner. All of we should take it seriously while we are conducting oral exams. Thats all ....

Prof.S.S.Shaikh
1. There must be ABCD.
2. Activity is nothing but the Captcha system so there must be some weightage for descriptive answers other than writing skill.
3. Oral must be there but with external examiner.
4. Textbook must be small and should consist of literary content.

Prof.Ramdas Nikam
I think there is no need of A B C D activity sheet as it makes a kind of segregation. Only one activity sheet is sufficient as there is only one question paper in other subjects. Why then ABCD in English subject only? It's injustice to the subject. And oral exam is must for the development of language skills.

Prof.Sanju Pardeshi, Chembur, Mumbai
I don't think that there is any requirement of ABCD, because it was implemented with the intention of preventing mass copy. But now with Activity Sheet as it’s based on creativity.
So far oral exam is concert it should be there as it develops the skills of students.
It is the responsibility of all teachers to conduct the oral exam honestly.
We can have External examiner for the same to have the seriousness in it.

Prof.Krunal Sir, Nagpur
There is no need of ABCD activity sheets it was there to prevent cheating in exams but it has made no difference being a teacher of Ashram School it should be there because it decreases the difficulty level of foreign language rural area students are less confident in solving English paper so oral exam should be there they can't even right 80 marks question paper how can we expect from them to write 100 marks of question paper it should be there.

Prof.Ganesh Lohe
I agree with you sir. (Agree with Prof.Ramdas Nikam’s views)

Prof.Triveni Madam
Agree with you sir. (Agree with Prof.Ramdas Nikam’s views)

Prof.Deepak Shedage
There is no need of A, B, C, D activity sheets.
For science subject practical is necessary.
So for Language subject, Oral exam must be necessary.
External examiner should take oral exam.

Prof.Suryawanshi Sir
I also agree with you sir. (Agree with Prof.Ramdas Nikam’s views)

Prof. A.R.Pawar
I also agree with you sir. (Agree with Prof.Krunal’s views)

Prof.Shimpi Pravin, Somayya Mumbai
I do agree. There is certainly no need of ABCD because present pattern is based on creativity as there are activity based questions to solve them students have to use their own skill and knowledge so ABCD should not be there but oral should be there to help students to develop skill of LSRW. But it should be conducted honestly.

Prof.Sanju Bhau
No need of ABCD, but oral should be necessary

Jr. College English Teachers’ Group 4

D.S.Patil Sir, MHSK. Kolhapur
Dear Sir,
I think, to avoid mass copy, there must be a code system. But while setting papers according to code system, proper weightage must be given to all papers.
Regarding oral exam, I think, there are many controversies. But as far as other subjects concerned viz. science, there must be parallel system to the practical exams. Because, in practical exams also, students get out of marks.so impartial system should be implemented regarding the oral exam. After all in every system, there are drawbacks. We have to forward the system without any fault..........

Prof. Shirsath D. Y. C. D. Jain College of Commerce,
Shrirampur (A.nagar)
1) Now H.S.C.is only a qualified level for Graduating, so we mustn't provide ABCD code.
2) Oral exam is big farce today.. Teacher puts out of marks to Even dull student.
So remove as early as possible.
Stop all these malpractices. Please maintain quality based one activity sheet.

Prof.C.M.Gaikwad
Oral exam is good to test listening and speaking skills. Do we really and honestly conduct this? Do we really follow the format given by the Board? The answer is no. That’s why the Board is thinking of saying goodbye to oral exams.

Prof.Ishrat Khan
As per my concern oral exams should be there as it's only the way to judge the base of English language skills that is L,S,W,R and  next question of giving marks to the dull students that depends on teachers tact she should be genuine as she or he is a role model for upcoming generation.

Prof.Sudam Deshmukh, Pimpalgaon BK
I think before giving some suggestions regarding these both issues, it will be better to see why they are initiated.
1) A B C D Sets r initiated to stop mass copy, yes and it works very well so far, student afraid to do that. But now activity sheets are presented before them which require more time to solve out with better performance so I think sets pattern should be removed because activity sheet itself helps to stop mass copy.
2) Oral exams must be remained as usual .Oral exam has been initiated to evaluate student's skill not memory.
It is up to us (teacher / organizer) how to handle it. Whatever it is blamed (That teacher becomes too liberal for giving marks) is a fault of conductor /organizer not of a system, so oral exams r good to evaluate students internal skills and must be retained as it is.

Prof.Sajjad Ahmad Khan, Patur, Akola
The decision had already taken about No A B C D sets from coming session and No oral from next session. What we have to do now?

Prof.Kerkal Madam
Is it true no ABCD sets from Feb 2019?

Prof.Sajjad Ahmad Khan, Patur, Akola
Yes 100%. There is no need of ABCD papers after Activity sheet because we have to face varied or multiple answer for each activity. Officially I knew 3 board of studies members while talking them in our Delta's meeting on it. In December or coming month there will be a notification on it will be published in Shikshan Sankraman.

Jr. College English Teachers’ Group 5

Prof.Shyam Jagtap, Kopargaon
I think there's no need of set code activity sheet because proper evaluation will not possible. Second thing about oral it must be there because it is useful enhance oral communication but from initial stage strict implementation must be there

Prof.Smita Warpe
The basic objection is malpractices so the board introduced sets. If we can curb it things will be fair.
As far as orals are concerned it is in hands of teachers and management to make them more authentic by establishing credibility.

Prof.Shyam Jagtap, Kopargaon
To,
Prof.Smita Warpe
Mam malpractices only in English? Unbelievable!
Follow d system for all languages, if possible.

Prof.Smita Warpe
To,
Prof.Shyam Jagtap
No. Have I said it? But it is compulsory subject so the number of copy cases obviously is big.

Prof. Santosh Dorake
1) I think that there should not be any difference between English and other languages in terms of evaluation. So there is no need to set A, B, C, D sets of question papers for only English subject.
They were introduced to avoid malpractices in the board exam. We can do it by using other ways.
2)  Oral exams are still necessary to check the communication skills of the students; I would suggest that oral should be of 30 marks.

Prof.Vaishali Jane
Respected Sir, I think there is no need of A,B,C,D activity sheet sets for English. It is unjust for English. Already, most of the students are afraid of English subject. So, there should be one question paper like other subjects.
Oral exam should not be removed from the evaluation because it helps to develop various skills in students as well as helps the weak students to pass the exam .If it is removed, it will be also unjust for our subject (English) because other subjects have projects or practicals which help students to pass or to increase their percentage. So, equal evaluation pattern should be there for all subjects.

Prof.Kalpesh Patil
Respected Tushar sir,
I think there must not be sets. Because others subject doesn't have that kind of format so why should be for English. More over more than 53 marks are common in all sets. Only it differs 23 marks. And about oral evaluation it must be followed because it develops basic skill of learning language that is LSRC...

Prof.Noorjahan
I also agree sir with u. (Agree with Prof.Kalpesh Patil’s views)

Prof.Sagarika Chatopadhya
I completely agree with you regarding the A,B,C,D Sets particularly in the new Paper Pattern.
Oral exam is a necessity for many students, but it also creates a lot of discrepancies in the scoring, as examiners and moderators we all have experienced that, like a student scoring anything between 20and 30out of 80, scored 20/20. Our commitment needs to be fair as well.
As far as I know, the projects for all other subjects also are not going to be there as well.

Prof.Smita Warpe
I am in favour of oral exams but I am sharing with the group objections raised during discussion and we couldn’t argue there.

Prof.Shivaji Thakur
I am not favour of oral exam.

Prof.Burle Sir, (Agree with Prof.Santosh Dorake’s views)

Prof.Gitanjali Divekar, (Agree with Prof.Santosh Dorake’s views)

Prof.Deepali Bhagwat, (Agree with Prof.Santosh Dorake’s views)

Prof.Rajesh Agarwal
If oral exam is necessary then marks must be allotted according to the ratio of written. In this case nobody will recommend oral!

Prof. Santosh Dorake
To,
Prof.Rajesh Agarwal
How is it possible?
Some students can perform well in oral test and some can perform better in written test.

Prof.Amin Sagar, (Agree with Prof.Vaishali Jane’s views)

Prof.Vaishali Jane
We can only give marks according to their responses in various skills. But we all know how we give twenty marks to our students which are in our hands. We are in the same boat excluding some exceptions. We have to increase our result and the Board also wants the same. When I give 20 marks to all students who are eligible for it or not, I feel guilty. Some students can write and some can answer orally but commit mistakes in writing. So, we can't judge the students’ performances on seeing one side.

Prof.Jagdale Sir Khandgaon
Right (Agree with Prof.Vaishali Jane’s views)

Jr. College English Teachers’ Group 6

Prof. N.J.Patil, N.A.Shinde Jr college Uchat, Wada
HSC board exam definitely needs ABCD activity sheet sets as it will be now easy to copy each other’s sets if board follows only one sheet for all students. Students should think and solve activity sheet on their own.

Prof.Teresa George NMCDr.B.R.Ambedkar HS & Jr.college.Nagpur
Oral exam should not be removed. Some credit should be given to oral (speaking/reading skill), besides these marks help the students to pass the exam.

Prof. K L Suryawanshi Lakhani Bhandara
Having oral exam...it has been experienced that the real credit is not given to the students who deserve the real potential...many times these marks are given only to pass...so this is my personal opinion that the oral examination should be excluded.
Oral examination has made a real injustice to brilliant and intelligent...hard working students...and this is my own personal experience...

Prof. Tonde Sir
Sir, I think so far as 12 board exam is concerned ABCD set should be there but orals can be reduced.

Prof.C.J.Patil
Sirji
1) All the boards except ssc n hsc have their orals then why should there be Injustice with our students
2) Why should there be four sets of Q papers for our subject only why not for Physics n Maths
3) It means only injustice with our students n English teachers.

Prof.Shevale (Deore) Leena
I honestly feel that there is no need of sets because the question paper already contends sub questions with many activities ( headache to solve and to check even) so framing sets is just a waste of time money and teacher's energy how tough it is to check all the sets e.g terminal exam papers.
Oral exam should be there because it helps to increase the result of English so it must be there for only English.

Prof.Birajdar Sir, The model Multipurpose High school and Jr. College Malinagar
Why should English only have 4 sets?
About oral. What's happening with Science practicals? After all the results of HSC AND SSC depend on the results of English subject.

Prof. Sachin V. Pawar Saphale, Palghar
True fact (Agree with Prof.Birajdar’s views)
It's good that English has A,B,C,D sheets but if we think about overall then that activity should be students oriented for getting marks, but only English subject has a,b,c,d sheets , sometimes it's like that we  do injustice with the students. If we saw other subject especially science field those subjects have practical , but we know very well that rural students face the problems of English so we must think that there is only one question paper like other subjects, why should we make students to become a victim of system. It's too shameful why should we always injustice with students. Syllabus must have the skills like only to improve LSRW (specially student learn to speak and read English without any fear)

Prof. Sagar Bobade Sir Amaravati
What is the reason behind A.B.C.D. paper set?
What does the board want to prove from it?
So it's not necessary A,B,C,D sets.

Prof. Veena Kale
I agree with the view that there is no need of A,B,C,D sets

Prof. Vaishali Badhe
A, B, C, D set are not important. But oral examinations should be continued.

Prof.Sachin Korde
We are too intelligent!!
What do you think about practicals of science faculty?
And other boards exam eg, CBSC or other!
That's not injustice? Horrible!

Prof.Nahate Sir Sirsoli
A, B, C, D set are not important. But oral examinations should be continued.

Prof.Sachin Korde
Very true!
Only HSC board exam and only English subject definitely needs ABCD activity sheet sets! There is no need of such pattern for other subjects! Students who appear for other subjects never try to copy each other!!!

Prof. Pachegaonkar G S, Latur
Yes it is right (Agree with Prof.Sachin Korde’s views)

Prof. Kailas Dusane
A B C D pattern will be excluded from FEB 2019 for HSC.
No Oral exam from 2020 for std. 11 and 2021 for std. 12. New text book of Std. 11 Based on Activity based format will be launched from 2019 - 20

Jr. College English Teachers’ Group 7

Prof. Niraj Boharpi
Sir..... A B CD sets are necessary but not necessary oral. At the same time in Xl & Xll syllabus board must include the literature work of Shakespeare, Keats, R. Browning, John Milton etc..

Prof.Biradar Keshav,Mahatma Basweshwar college, Latur.
There is no need of multi set question papers in the forthcoming HSC exam and oral exam is not necessary.

Prof. Gurme Nagnath Machindra (Shri. Shivaji Jr. College Latur)
Sr.....These sets are very important nowadays because of the students think different way to present their ideas. Students are able to think freely. This method is highly creativity in writing skill. Oral method is very important in educational system.

Prof. Laxman Caude
There is no need of A, B, C, D because the student feels it’s as injustice. They judge on their own level that particular set was easy and other particular set was difficult. There is no set code for other subjects than why it is only for English.
As about Oral concern, it is important and useful but it is not been followed by the teachers. That's why it is become useless. So oral should be remove from the syllabus and instead of it there must be include easy portion as language study like 10th.

Prof. Jagjit Kaur Madam
A, B, C, D set are not important. But oral examinations should be continued.

Prof.D.M.Neer, Loksewa jr college kosamtondi. Dist- Gondia-
(Agree with Prof Jagjit Kaur Madam’s views)

Prof.Ajay Mankawade- (Agree with Prof Laxman Caude’s views)

Prof. D.M.Labade, Abasaheb Kakade Jr College
Shevgaon Dist. Ahmednagar
 1. Obviously there must be multi set question papers in the forthcoming HSC exam.
2. Oral exam is not at all necessary.

Prof.Sachin Raut
 A  B C D sets must be there.

Prof. Dhanraj Mankare Sir
 A, B, C, D sets n oral exam, both should be there.

Prof.Raju sir
No need of four sets
No need of oral  test

Prof. Shivani Pednekar
I think oral exam is necessary. Objectives of languages such as speaking, reading, listening can be judged by oral skill. Students can understand the importance of speaking which will be beneficial for them in future and it will boost their confidence to face interviews. If CBSE board students get oral marks then why not ours? There should be one system about it in the country. Our students should not only be examinee they should develop taste for language. And it will be possible if we give them chance to express& explore. We should bring our students out from textbook prison.
There should be A,B,C,D sets. Students will understand the importance of exam & will be aware about the least chance of copy write.

Prof.D.M.Labade, Abasaheb Kakade Jr. College,
Shevgaon Dist. Ahmednagar
Basically these four skills, though we teach are not mastered by students and vaguely no.of teachers allot 20 out of 20, Even they can't speak single word in oral exam. Is it right?  If there is oral exam then it should be conducted by external teachers not by internal subject teachers. As we do not credit the students properly, teachers discriminate. Otherwise there should not be oral exam

Prof. Sujata Avachar
I agree oral exams should be conducted by externals and also properly then and then the motive can be achieved

Prof. Shivani Pednekar
We can make changes in it  If the teacher gave 20 marks  and the student got 40 out of 80 then his oral marks would be depreciated  in that proportion, as we had that system in  University. And most important we cannot blame our teachers for giving 20 marks they think if everyone give why not me?  What about CBSE teachers? Are they really fair while giving marks? External examiner will do the same as we see it in Science subjects. If a student passed in a 12 th board exam he gets opportunity to give various exams to get employment. And can continue his education. Some students will be thrown away from education if they failed frequently in English in 12 th  Education should open the door to bright future and should not lock it .If you are weak in one subject....it doesn't mean you are dull.  English is a real challenge for some rural students but real talent is also hidden in them.

Prof.Azar Aatif- (Agree with Prof Shivani Pednekar’s views)

Prof. Laxman Caude
It's rare to possible, what's the value of oral if we depreciate in the proportion as University as well CBSE

Prof.Shraddha Misar
Oral is useful but it is not properly conducted nor wisely judged. Students expect 20marks though they don't deserve. Even we teachers offer liberal marks or our system compels us to do so. If we don't give them full marks they make propaganda and don't take admissions in our college. It’s a vicious circle. They know they will get min 15. They are not serious regarding studies. Oral is best but system has corrupted it.

Prof.Ajay Karande
Oral should conduct by external with properly on their parameters; it can be helpful to students.

Prof.Shraddha Misar
Activity sheet has potential to restrict copy by students .Even books and guides are provided to students, they fail to copy out from the materials. So A B C D are not required. Format of activity sheet makes them to learn with understanding.

Prof. Laxman Caude
There is external for eve, what is use of it. Every students are getting more than 40 marks out of 50?

Prof.Shraddha Misar
It’s my earnest request to all that we should focus on improving understanding of students and motivate them for enriching vocabulary which is the major part in comprehension.

Prof.S.T.Dupare, Jr.College Kavathi, (Agree with Prof Shivani Pednekar’s views)

Prof.Sajid N.Khan, Jr. College Sewli, (Agree with Prof Shivani Pednekar’s views)

Prof.Shashi Bari, St.Marys Jr.College, (Agree with Prof Shivani Pednekar’s views)

Prof.Seema Dandekar, Murud Janjira
Yes, sets and oral exam both necessary for rural areas students.

Prof.Sudhakar Kirmire
As a teacher from tribal area I think oral is necessary. It helps the students to score passing marks in Eng. But if oral exam will be conducted by external examiner not a single student from my college would be able to score even 10/15 marks.

Prof.Gagare Sir
Oral exam (20 marks) And written exam (80 makes) is not part of discussion in today's situation instead of it is adjustment for rural areas as well as to grip the lower and poor candidates due to not basically language foundation.

Prof.U.S.Patil, Kolhapur
No need of Oral exam and sets.
25 will be necessary and students will learn more themselves now there is no fear of fail so they don't study.
I welcome new format.

Prof.Manisha Chande
Oral is important for my rural students.

Prof.Guntaji
Oral exam is good for the students. They learn or try to speak in English.

Prof.Raju Sir
No need of four sets
Because
1) In four sets, while setting the question paper,  the difficulty level is not properly maintained.
2) Students think that they would have scored more marks if they had got rest of the sets.
3) It is revealed that some sets are easier for the students to solve than other sets.
4) I have come to know that some of the grammar topics are given more importance in some sets whereas they are neglected in other sets and it is injustice.
So instead of 4 sets
We must have only one set to all the students so that candidates may be evaluated accurately.
Oral tests must be cancelled because
1) The students who don't deserve 5 marks are generously offered 20 out of 20
2) Due to oral test marks Most of the students are not serious about their studies.
3) Not only the society but also the students are making fun of the exam system.
4) If oral exam is cancelled, students will take their studies seriously.
5) Due to oral exam more quantity and less quality is being seen in schools and colleges.
6) Those who pass the exam with the help of oral marks are good for nothing in further education.
So oral tests must be cancelled and I am sure they will be cancelled.

Prof Dhanraj Mankare Sir
There are few colleges which are not fulfilled with basic needs like water n electricity.
There is no suitable environment for studies. Not even their family earns enough money; hence they are unable to cope up with the studies.
If they are not provided with such basic needs, they should get oral marks, which encourage them to prepare for written exam.
Hence there should be oral exam.

Prof Santosh Asabe Sir
I respect  the  views  expressed  by  our  colleagues that  oral  tests  are  unnecessary. They  simply  think  these  are  malpractices  on the  part  of  teachers as well as  students. But what  we  see  in current situation  in fields  of  Politics Commerce & whatever the  fields we think of. Don’t we see such practices everywhere?   What could we do even our daily life & our service area. Especially injustice done to us by the management of our college. I think frankly some of our students may get benefits of marks of Oral exam. But  bye getting  though  such  exam  They  may  have  career  in  so called substandard  areas  in service based  professions  & industries. Our society doesn't need  only  scientists  doctors & engineers But  it  also needs  semiskilled  persons ever  than  before.  So I think  a student who  might have  passed  just  with the  help of oral exam  & proved his  mettle in  future must not  be  underestimated....So  these  exams are  beneficial.. If you all don't mind.  Let me ask one question... What about marks allotted to science students for practical exam. Do all the students deserve the marks they get?

Prof Santosh Asabe Sir
Pl just  think  about  the  colleges  who  have  poor  feeding of  students who  belong to  their first generation of educational system especially  students at Ashramshalas. How can they interact in correct English at time of oral exam to get more marks?

Prof.Umakant Mamile, Jr Narkhede
If look at the admissions process less mark obtained student are taking admissions to science faculty because they will think they will pass with the help of practical marks. Those subjects’ teachers never think about cancelling the practical work. If students ask do you like to take English subject if it is optional subject, they say no. so think first of all about our subject and think about it. So if we want to attract to students towards our subject, it is must. Some students are from rural areas and poor families who do not attend the school they will pass with the help of oral test. They never compete with the clever student. Some think oral marks are given without assessment. Marks are given to all. Clever pupil thinks, they will get marks but not complete with them. The cbse students get chance of attending the oral test. They get the good credit of oral marks. So the oral test remains as it is. I think.

Really there is no need of A B C D pattern question papers.
Orals should be removed from English. We all know that how orals are conducted in schools. I know that It would not accept by all but think over it that which generation is molded by us.
QP patter should be of 100 marks.
It should be based on activities.
Most important copy should be debarred from exams. For this our teachers should change their mentality.
Like Tushar sir we all should be creative and should prepare activity videos and provide students audio video teachings do students would get interest in learning.

Prof.Swati Jadhav, Karad
Some students are so weak that they can’t gain 35marks, for their sake oral should be there. Subjects like physics, Chemistry, Biology passing become easy due to practical's 30marks. Most of the students neglect languages, they focus on their group subjects .according to me, oral should be there.

Prof.Bhushan Ishwar Birari Patonda Amalner
Only passing should not be considered. If so ....

Prof.Swati Jadhav, Karad
Talented students won’t have any problem but weak students’ can’t get 35 marks. Some of them are unable to read properly, some can’t write correct spelling of their own name.

Prof Mangesh Mekhle Latur
Correct (Agree with Prof.Swati Jadhav’s views)

Prof.Deepak Sir
We will get only 30% result to art faculty oral exam help them to get 35 marks so orals are very important.

Prof.Vilas Bhopi
You ll have to conduct a new repeater batch in July 2019.

Prof.R.S.Kagane H J P college Himayatnagar Dist Nanded
What step should we all take to cancel ABCD sets? It's essential sir.

Prof.Vilas Bhopi
 40-60 ratios instead of 80-20
40 factual, 60 descriptive type, personal response, and writing section etc.

Prof Ajay Undegaonkar
SSC Board has already removed oral test for 10th std. from this academic year, same should be the pattern for 12th std.

Prof Rajjak Shaikh
Good but too late

Prof Trubhuvan Manisha
Sir don't u think the time for paper is not sufficient because students have to read the passage. They have writing skills etc.

Prof Sayeed Saipan Saheb Solapure

I think that oral exam should not be conducted for 12 class. Only 100 marks English paper should be design by the board based on activity. No doubt oral exams are useful for passing the exam with flying colours, but the drawback is the students are not at all serious and the teachers also play the bias role by helping the students who are attending tuition class students by telling them the spellings and sentences and answers in the classroom, which is totally illegal to maintain quo status of education thoroughly.
Thanking you in anticipation.

Prof Dr. Santosh Ramnath Wagh, Nashik
Namaste sir I think oral exam should not be important but we have to think both sides- rural and urban student. In rural area there is not enough facility of tuition or private coaching and in urban area students have got different sources notes of English. Most of the student come from English medium; semi English so they can easily solve the English que paper without oral exam but in village tribal area they are unable to read the sentence even can’t write their own correct spelling when they have to fill their HSC board form at that tm we have to write the correct spelling of their regular subject; seat no on the blackboard and this is a real fact at everywhere. And my own experience most of the time due to marks of oral exam rural student speak 5 to 6 sentences; telling their own information; trying to speak English though it is not grammatically correct and I think oral exam is the source of confidence specially to urban; tribal student so according to me oral exam should be continued for HSC

Prof.Manoj Khaire
Yes I agree with u sir. Oral exam is very important to boost confidence as well as enrich the oral speaking ability of the student. Many rural students yet not understand the new format of question paper or even not understand the simple practical question on given passage. So result of 10th definitely decreasing.

Prof. Ahirrao R. B. Shubhda college Malegaon
Yes it is necessary to continue oral exam, keeping in mind the abilities of urban and rural students.

Prof P.M. Sambare
Oral exam and A,B,C,D set  are different if we think about orals just ask ourselves why has the Board decided to cancel it? Why are we against different sets, whatever the pattern is launched, some of our colleagues are working there, they are always doing something for students improvement

Prof C. A. Patil Navalnagar Dhule
Correct sir. (Agree with Prof P.M. Sambare’s views)

Prof Sampat Kadam Latur
Is it apt to have oral of 20, calligraphy of 20, communication of 20, Vernacular of 20, classical of 10 and finally written of 10?

Jr. College English Teachers’ Group 9

Prof Annajigar Madhu
There is no need to have different sets because no two extracts will have the same difficulty level. We are doing injustice to some students. Some way or the other we can't be impartial. I don't really understand what we want to prove by providing different sets.
Regarding oral exam, it should be a part of evaluation. It has a great purpose to serve in this Era of enormous increase in the mass media of communication. As science is incomplete without practical examination, language without oral examination stands incomplete. If there is a problem in the way in which the exam is conducted. A new system should be introduced. Oral exam not only enables the students to get employment in future but also prepares them to face interviews.
