New Textbook for Class XI and XII - Expectations - Discussion

Jr. College English Teachers' Group 1 (Discussion)

Prof. Tushar Chavan
I request you all to share your views about new text book of Std XI and XII. Give a list of your expectations from this new text books. Suggest how many units should be there. Number of Rapid Reading stories and one act play. All are working on ground level and it's a good chance to share our thoughts and problems regarding text books to the honorable board of studies.

Prof. Avinash Rade
I have different perspective. In stead of our expectations, discuss what our students need to prepare to lead a successful life. Enlist the points. Even if there is no cyber connection, how can we let them know about the use of technology and the improvement it has brought in out lives.

Prof. Tushar Chavan
The text book is one of the media so I think it should not be prepared only sitting in one room. It should present the comprehensive and ground level realities.  If the text book is not depicting it, we cannot introduce it to our students.
In the present text books, there are so many topics that are not at all beneficial to our students. They do not have any specific intention. Such worthless and futile topics should be avoided.

Prof. Tushar Chavan
The text book should deal with modern technologies and modern inventions. e.g. Mobile banking, UPI, social media, use of mobile apps, websites, QR code, bar code, e mail, digital data saving drives, e government, web portals, educational blogs and video sharing, anchoring, group discussions as we see on TV, educational tabs, Android TV and mobile, audio visual advertising, fax, arrangement of any social event, start up program for business etc. We should introduce such things to our students through textbook.

Prof. Saraswati Madam
Units should be reduced.

Dr. Prof. Ganesh Agrwal
I have a doubt in this... i think here we are talking about English Subject. My question is what do we need to teach through the English Course Book? Techonology? Social Media? Language? Modern inventions? E Government TV EDUCATIONAL TABS OR SOMETHING ELSE?
According to me these all technological terms are ruining the English Language as what we type in messages or whatsapp messages. I request all the BOS to develop the syllabus of our subject in such a way that students can apply it to earn their bread and butter. Secondly it must be seen that in  XI and XII Englush should get due respect as it had before 10 years.
Next is the course book should lead the students for competitive examinations.  Then the real purpose of learning will be served.
Today 90% students know social media, e government, android tv n all....

Prof. Prafulla Mahure
One interesting thing , there should be scope for learning English. Right from the Std 1 students have been learning English. We are the witness to the fact that they haven't learned even after passing Board exams(SSC, HSC). Learning English means learning skills of language to use in the day to day life. So the coursebook should have ample opportunities to develop basic skills i.e LSRWC and learn modern soft skills of language. No doubt it would be activity based. The activities should be lucid to conduct in the classroom. The text selected for coursebook should not be too lengthy.
To be continued......

Prof. P.H.Chavan
The new textbook should be frame in such way that student n teachers feel ease with it. I don't know why our board members are always obsess with bulky textbooks. Whether it is 9 th , 10th standard textbooks or 11th ,12 th
It's kind of burden on our teachers.
To focus on syllabus along with writing still n grammatical items is rather difficult task. To add this we have to deal with numerous activities as far as new activity pattern is concerned. If we just see Marathi n other language textbook we can easily realise it. We all english teachers are under pressure throughout the year. Whether it is syllabus, or writing skill, or result. Just compare the load that Marathi teachers carry n we carry. I just feel that the syllabus should be apt n precise one
To be continued......

Prof. Chetankumar Patil
The focus should be on 10 core elements of education policy of India .
Now a days students are losing their innocence The course book should be interesting.
Like we r having  a lesson A Boy with a mission .
Or a lesson from previous syllabus Go kiss the world .such lessons make student emotional & sensitive .
Now my experience is while teaching the   A Boy with a mission ,some students cry .tears well up in their eyes ..some of them cry unabashedly.
More GRAMMAR activities should be there.
Give importance to self learning content
Teachers should use technology while teaching
The text that evoke Patriotism  in students .
More practice of reading and speaking should be there for students.

Prof. Tushar Chavan
Is it necessary to include application letter for job in our syllabus? In today's time every where you will find printed application form or online application form. The candidate just fill up the information and send it along with the resume.
Instead of application letter there should be activity to write the resume / bio data for making an application for a job.
Because in most cases, the candidates applying for a job can't provide a good resume to their companies and so rejected by the companies.
Do think on this.

Prof. Atul Ingale
I do think it's useless now these days. Instaed of it we must focus on the other types of letters Viz. Application for a bonafide certificate, concession in fees, application for leave  bcoz though we do have good academic track students in my college;very few of them can write proper letter of such.
I would like to appeal even in the coming borad exam the paper setters must avoid   application for Job. They must target the other types.
In fact how many students of 12th under 18yrs of age are able to apply for a job  in a real life?

Prof.Atul Ingale
In the last pattern we had tourist leaflet.
The same is continued in the revised pattern also.
Apart from it leaflets of yoga computer, summer camps, donation  are also included.
Will the paper setters ask questions on such challenging leaflets? Such leaflets are very useful now these days.
Suppose anyone won't get a job even after moderate education;onemay get a chance in the print media.
One may get a sufficient amount by drafting such in the print media.
Plz share your views regarding whether this year the leaflets on Tourism should be there or not.
We teach leaflets on Hill Station & Historical place only.  We never ask  leaflet on our city. If it is going to  remain the same, so can we teach leaflet on our city/village?

Prof.Prafulla Mahure
We should teach whether it will be asked or not in the exam. We should not prepare students exam oriented. If you believe that your teaching should be useful for students in real life, teach them such things. If they are prepared for one type writing skill , they can be ready for other skills. Make them aware about the format of different advertising leaflets, brochure, etc.

Prof. P. H. Chavan
_Secondly, our textbook is framed in different unit section._ _And these units are restricted to particular subject topic._ _Hence it also puts certain limitations while the selection of the content for text lesson._ _As it begins from the first unit *Self*  it is obvious it will end on eighth unit *Universe*._ _Our textbook cover everything under the sun_. (अणू पासुनी ब्रह्मान्ड पर्यंत) _It is quite praiseworthy that our board members have try to give to justice to each n every field and left no nook as far as curricula is concerned._ _But can it possible or to cover everything_or is it mandatory? _And as the subject topic for the unit is fixed so it compels to selectorbparticular content for the text lesson based on that unit._
_Can we exclude this unit pattern though it's framework n design seems very systematic one?_ _And accept old pattern such as prose , poetry and rapid reading section._ _Even textbook of other languages do follow this pattern._ _This will also give more liberty to the board members for the selection of the content as per their wish._ _Rather the students will feel more ease while dealing with the syllabi._
_In that context the well blending of content and activities are far more important rather than unit structure._ _To add if the activities provide ample opportunity for the students as well as teachers to work out properly. It will bring more positive result._
_Though my views may not sound proper,_ _but it is essential to put forward something regarding the framework of  the textbook_.

Prof. Kiran Kulkarni
In new text books of std11 and 12 syllabus should be limited  I think only six units should be there and in Rapid Reading only three stories should be there In each unit one poem and two prose should be there And below each part questions based on activities must be there for practice Topics must not be lengthy and language should be simple particularly for students from rural area.

Prof. Prashant Bagul
In new text books of std11 and 12 syllabus should be limited. It should be activity oriented. While framing it, we should think about rural and tribal students.  Topics must not be lengthy.  It should be prepare in such way which enrich experiences of rural and tribal students. Its difficulty level should not be so high.

Jr. College English Teachers' Group 2 (Discussion)

Prof. Hitendra Rajput
Each unit as well text should have QR code to scan them on our device. Also there should have Live English activities to make our pupils as well our professors technosavvy.

Prof. Mansoor
Every Unit must contain some activities related with Spoken English so that our students will not need to go for any Spoken English classes.

Prof. Sharad Palve
Though students have reached jr college level ,basic thingsabout english sentence structures  they don't know......so they hesitate to write and speak english.
But we expect them to master next level (without basic knowledge ).
So bridge course should be there to connect this barrier .
when we talk about LSRW 10% weightage  should be there for oral test to help develop communication skills -in future too.

Prof. Nitin Ahirrao
Reduce the length of the book , give more focus on written communication (writing skill )

Prof. Gaddam Shakuntala
Some unit should be based on our religious and cultural heritage.students must know about it.For ex Vedas rugvedas... I think so.

Prof. Avinash Baladkar
Selected texts should have the content having association between spirituality and modern technology. They must have the use of simple language, include interviews of great personalities, extracts from autobiographies.  .......

Prof. Prafulla Mahure
Email writing also should be included.

Prof. Ashok Kupkar
The strucure of the activity sheet should be student oriented.means questions length should be reduced as well as they will familiar with those words which included in questions.

Prof. N.N.Patil
There may be a complete lesson on email.
what's E-mail?
How to setup an email or mail account?
Platforms provide email facilities?
Yahoo, ,,
Rediff-mail,,,,,
Surprisingly enough many English Teachers don't know
E-mail
G mail
Google account
New topics should be depend on using of audio visual aids.

Prof. Bhadane Sir
Arts students unable to fill up their admission form.

Prof. Ajay Todkari
I think in new textbook less focus should be given on lessons and more focus should be given on development of students English. Lots activities should be include for the development of students English. Some lessons should be included related to 21st century. Some lessons should be based on motivational real stories.

Prof.Vijaykumar
Number of lessons should be reduced as well as the length of lessons should also be reduced to avoid monotony in the classroom and maximum activities engaging students should be included in the textbook.

Prof.Hitendra Rajput
While designing book consider the needs and level of pupils from rural area.

Prof.Manohar Patil
Modern age needs should be considered while designing the book lessons should motivational as well as inspirational Lessons should make able to students to speak  practicing waitag is important.

Prof.Sunil Jagtap
Size of the lesson number of units number of rapid reading should be considered.

Prof.Pallavi Patil
Number of lessons n length should be reduced n size of textbook also reduced.

Prof. Pawar sir
1.No of lessons should definitely be   reduced.
2. Writing skill should entirely be focusing on course book.
3. Grammar should be detailed as it is non detailed as if now except Q. No. 1B.
4. Poetry section should be given more emphasis since It makes the one very emotional, constructive, sensitive and so on.
5. Love for the language must be enhanced.
6.  Rhetoric,Oratary  persuasive skills should be honed.
7.More activities be added by reducing tedious topics.

Prof. Vijay Pawar
1.Length of lessons should not be more than a page or one and half.
2. Selection of the piece of literature should be interesting and be relevant to the current age of technology.
3. Poems like Old Women, Work etc may be good for value education to a more elder age group. Students at this age don't feel it interesting at all.
4. Grammar points must be limited. e.g. for 1 mark it's really hard to complete that full topic.
5. More stress on spoken and communication is needed.
6. Each lesson and poetry must have it's soft material available on net. It makes the students to understand it better.
7. Most important, there should be regular training sessions for teachers for conducting activities.

Prof. Vijay C. Patil
I think instead of lessons , poems their should be topics related to practical/Spoken English. Importance should be given to Utility of language.

Prof. Nayana Chaudhari
A book should not be bulky.it should be like marathi book having limited prose chapters and limited poems by Indian poets. One unit should be for prescribed grammar with detailed explanation and examples. In stead of oral project work should be given.Actually it is given in current course book but no one comples the students to do that, because we are all exam oriented..
Finally it should be designed as taking into consideration the level of rural students those who are even unable to write and read.

Prof. G. J. Atram
*For New Textbook*
*Can we make it more like a rapidex rather than like a scripture?*
(So that it may have all kinds of sentences, phrases, idioms)
*And there can be one section for Prose and poetry(combined) like Rapid Reading section. That will provide different forms of literature to cater their reading skill. And it should not be given weightage more than 20%.*
*All the Written and Communication portion should be given in one section with examples. As it is in present Textbook given in Extension activity which students and teachers have to prepare separately. Some times it is not covered completely due to lengthy lesson and various grammar activities.*
*In short our text should be all inclusive and self sufficient, leaving no scope for digest or any extra study materials.*
*With this textbook the beginners as well as advance readers should be able to learn at the same time unlike the current textbook.* (Student will score according to their level of study.)
*{Two well prepared Rapidexes (FYJC &SYJC),I am sure, will be quite useful for students who are going to venture into real life after +12 education and will be able to use a good deal of English at their respective work places.}*
*I wish all the Members of Board of Studies of  Balbharti, ALL THE VERY BEST to carry on such a mountainous work.*

Jr. College English Teachers' Group 3 (Discussion)

Prof. Ravindra Kadam
In the new course book there should be given line   numbers in the text. It is in the previous course book.

Prof. Krunal Sir
Absolutely sir coursebook should be applicable to daily use Ashram school students can't even read properly, they can't form a sentence so it becomes difficult to teach most of the grammar topics.

Prof. Vinod Navghare
The new course should be small in size. So that we can handle it easily.

Prof.Sunita Shinde Kunwar
I think  Sir  the number of  units  should be  less in both new coursebooks.

Prof.Umesh Patil
There should be lessons mostly of Indian Authors.

Prof.Reshma Khan
Yes ..book  shud b less bulky ..for we have grammar n writing skill too...so it's gets too much..
Six units...2 prose n 1 poetry.
Line numbers ...a must...
gets difficult  when  one reads d passage n tells d answer or discusses a particular point.
Level of difficulty...
vernacular medium students n rural students  have L3 till 10th n then
L1 for 12th.
It becomes difficult for them...
so some five to ten  more marks shud be added  more while taking into consideration d average or below average students ..
N no ABCD sets ...
students... nervous n scared.

Prof.Anna Pardeshi.
I think syllabus shud be reduced to 5 units so that all units with given activities would be solved slowly ads it is very important process for vernacular medium students.
Besides there must be scope for seminar,as students individual presentation will help all students, its morally supporting them with confidence ....
Minimum 12 marks question shud be there in vocabulary , words are soul of any language ,so it ought to be mandatory,
Moreover, i feel syllabus must be applicable in their life...
Seminar observed by external would be preferred.

Prof.Sachin Havaldar
I think there should be four units . Each one must consist- a poem , two or three lessons , A short story or A one act play.

Prof.Anna Pardeshi
1 . Reduced units will give justice tt o vernacular medium students
2.Seminar would be given marks duly observed by externals
3. Vocabulary should be focussed.
4.topics related to environment should be  more
5 .Brief introduction of writer's literary work must be given
6.Actual technological lessons and  applied grammar shud be added
7. Cover issues related to activities
8 . More or less hints for teachers should be included
9.Though it is said student centered, yet it is always teacher centered so apt shud be taken .
10 . Pair work , brain storming, constructivism etc should have clear instrumental instruction

Prof. Sanju Pardeshi
While designing the new text book, the aims and objectives of the teaching English subject are more important. What is suitable for teacher is not important. Students and learning process should be given more important according to Constructivist approach.

Prof  Nitin Gunjal
Ashram school students unable to read. Every year i start with alphabates. coursebook should be applicable to daily use and  Ashram school students can't even read properly, they can't form a sentence so it becomes difficult to teach most of the grammar topics.

Prof. Manohar Hari Patil
Along with the above mentioned suggestions, I would like to say that such prose should be selected which can be used to practice note making and summary writing. But in question paper unseen extract should be given .

Prof. V. D. Gaikwad
1)Aims and objectives of English language i.e.LSRW should be taken into account.
2) 10 Core and national values/ lifeskills  should be keep in mind.
3) course book must be contain5- 6 units, not more than 7 units in it.
4) in a unit there must be a poem and two lessons.
5) must be given good weightage to vocabulary in the activity sheet. Word power( building) is the base of any language.
6) course book must be the collection of poems, lessons and rapids from indian, american and british well known work of art.
7) there must be good correlation of variety of subjects and topics in the course book viz. Science, technology, computer ,medical ,trade and Commerce ,general knowledge history, fiction, geography and environment 8) functional grammar activity should be mention in the new course book .  9) in case of writing skills more scope should be given 2 enhance the creativity, imagination power. Its Practical application in the day to day life must be taken into consideration.
10) brief literary history and biography of the writer and poet must be given in the new course book.

Prof. Pravin Shimpi
Above all, there should be six units instead of eight so that proper justice can be given to each and every lesson.

Prof. Nitin Gunjal, Jr.College Mukhed, Niphad: [8:53 PM, 5/5/2019]

Syllabus should be changed considering the students from rural areas
If students are aware of such things or characters, then students will be more interested in it.
If new technologies such as e - mail, blog writing, use of social media are introduced in the syllabus, the young generation will relate themselves with it.
Rural atmosphere and vocabulary should be used in the prose or poetry topics. It will help the rural students to understand the situations and enjoy the text content.

Prof.S S Shaikh: [11:17 PM, 5/5/2019]

To Prof. Nitin Gunjal's views
I object....
Due to this we are losing the charm of Language...I firmly believe if you want your students language lovers and good language speakers you should not mingle other subjects in it.....it should totally free from sci and tech because there are those subjects for learning as your interest.... Language should consist of literature and speaking skill and sometimes morals and ethics that's it..... Do remember the English text books in 80s and 90s ....don't you think it has lost its beauty, charm and interests in 20 and 21st century (Guess why?)...by the way nobody will heed this....It’s my honest view....thank you!

Prof. Tushar Chavan: [7:59 AM, 5/6/2019]

To, Prof S.S.Shaikh's view-
Nice but if few chapters are used for introducing new technologies is good. Present text book is applied or functional English text book. There is separate English subject i.e. English literature. But no one is ready to take this optional subject at plus two level. So we can't expect literature in present text book. There must be a mixture of both literature and functional English.

Jr. College English Teachers' Group 4 (Discussion)

Prof. J.H.Pandey
I think, there should be only six units and three stories with one  one-act play in Rapid Reading for both the standards.

Prof. Amol Anarase
Textbooks  should be  application base.rather than lengthy stories.

Prof. Sakpal K.B.
1}It should be more practical
2}it should have only 6 units
3}it should have separately arrangements of prose and poetry section in it 80 %  should be indian writers.
4} grammar items and written activities should have the seperate place in course book
5} more illustrated ,easy 80 %easy level
6}human values should have been incalculable with subject skills
7}focus should be given on communicative approach
8}Half syllabus should be  divided in both years eg.half grammar items for 11th std & half for 12 th std
9}rapid reading stories have to reduce and should have the place for only 12 th std
10} Written activities should have been devided in  11th  & 12th std.

Prof. Pawan sir
It should be focus on LSRWC and grammar.

Prof. Sudam Deshmukh
As for as the length of the book is too much there should be six units 3 short stories sending moral massage.
The text units &articles in it should be interesting so that students would read them seriously and with keen attention.
Yes ,as per respectable Mr. Chavan Sir has  suggested there must be  at least 1/2 units related with modern technology.
Glossary and aids to comprehension topics should be according to new activity sheet.
The activity sheets should be related  to glossary and other activities given after the particular lesson.
In short our new text should  have reliability about exam point of view rather than just language point of view . It doesn't mean that I am neglecting language study.
*length should be decreased.
* Readable for students with interests.
*Exam and language both points should be considered.

Prof.Sajjad Ahmad Khan
But let me know what is the  selection procedure of the board member .I found lots of experience and really active  teachers were not on the board ?
Tushar Sir , Mahure sir are deserving and one member I personally know who had not more than 12 yrs experience always beging for me for resources, even not set an activity sheet ,year plan, ppt but on the board of the writers on Std 9 10 and now 11 , 12

Prof. Girish Sahita
The new text book should be qualitative rather than quantitative. Should have more inspiring texts. Values such as sensitivity, humanity, empathy, dignity for labour, scientific attitude, even spirituality should be given more emphasis which is need for the day.
Short n sweet texts, poems that can be enjoyed, recited n admired by youngsters should find a space in the new course book. Some texts that should inspire young minds to enter in to politics n bring abt a change should be included as many of us still don't wish our children to enter into politics. It should be fun to read the texts along with a moral n enlightening idea.

Prof. M.C.Badgujar
Composing an email also be included as in these days every company demands any information in the form through an e-mail.It should be included in writing skill .
Forming the script of an emceeing a programme should also be included

Prof. Dhananjay S. Patil
The present book consists The lessons which are from foreign writers. The lessons should be of Indian Authors.Indian perspective will be easy to understand as far as Indian students are concerned.

Prof. Sajjad Ahmad Khan
*My Expectations from Std 11 New Text book :      👉
1 The book should not be weighty,📚 lengthy 📜 like existing 11 std text book . 2 The vocabulary  sections  should be post on Right side of passage like new text book of Std 10 . 3.Unit system should be their 4.Activities should be set as per the format of activity sheets so no need of readymade guide ll required .              4. New Unit : 🙏Harmony and World Peace🤝 ll be added. 5.English work shop ,Project work , assignments ll become part and also included with Oral exam in evaluation pattern📉📊.6.Activity Sheet is not too lengthy size of word should be not more than 200 🗒🗓 .7. In Poetry sections Gist, Paraphrase,Poetic creativity should be made easy. 😤8.Stress should be given on Functional English and Words and accent , Phonetics should be introduced. 👩💼🤵 9. Oral exam will not be excluded either 🤓😆 10 marks for oral and 10 marks for assignments or projects like Taking interview of any famous personality, Tourist leaflet of your town. Prepare handouts for spreading social message like blood donation, Rally for flood ,Cleanliness drive.Report writing on various programme etc included in Project work 📒📕.10.Last but not least ordinary and common students will use handy book by using QR Code and enjoy learning  by all digital resources like PPT, VDOs . 💻📲📺 List of available sights and portal  should be mentioned on the Last page of Reference and Bibliography.

Prof. S. R . Harde
Adding with all the above views of specially Khan and Mahure sirs,
I am proposing the following points , the syllabus of 11th, 12th should be devided into four parts :
1. There should be Communicative English ( email, blog, personal and business letters, interview, spoken activity, etc.)
30 marks
2. Prose(Comprehensive paras)(only 3 units)
18 marks
3. Poems(poetic creativity)(6 or 8 poems)
8 marks
4. Grammar (based on UPSC)
16 marks
5. Story Writings ( writing ability)
8 marks

Jr. College English Teachers' Group 5 (Discussion)

Prof. Santosh Dorake
The text book of XII should not be having heavy contents that our students can't understand. There should be simple and interesting stories which may appeal to the students and enable them to draw conclusions from them.
There should be only 6 units having 1 poem and 2 prose and 3 rapid reading stories in each unit confining our text into less than 20 subunits. It will help the teachers to complete the syllabus and touch various perspectives of English language and grammar.

Prof.K.S.Patil
Preparing resume is nice to demonstrate candidate professionally.
But I think writing an application does not mean only for the purpose of job but vice versa interview panel can understand the depth of thinking and demonstrating skills of an applicant. Which is far better than the resume which can be plagiarized from end number of sources.

Prof.Sachin Dahotre
There should not be 8 units.  It is becoming really very difficult for the Teachers to complete the syllabus in time.   moreover we are spending our whole year in teaching prose poetry and Rapid reading.
We are not getting time to teach our students grammar writing skills etc.
And the weightage is given to the writing skills and to grammar..
We have to focus on that first..
I think these things are to be considered while preparing new syllabus for XI and XII English textbook...

Prof. Bhalchandra Patil
There should not be an excessive burden on students and teachers to complete the syllabus, students are demotivated due to incomplete syllabus and teachers work under pressure of institution to complete the syllabus,
My view is that all those topics mentioned by Tushar sir should be implemented practically, i mean they should get the knowledge of it through practicing it.
Care should be taken that the syllabus should not merely reading the text, giving explanation and asking the questions on it.
Let them enjoy with practical knowledge.

Prof.Balasaheb sir
We must consider students learning in rural areas where modern technology is not available. Teachers are main to impart knowledge.

Prof. Santosh Wagh
New  syllabus  : from  my point  of  view.
Today's  era is very  competitive.  Students  are in a  big race. Mejority of the  students are in a  dilemma.  Catastrophe before them is what  to do? & what  not  to do. The  result is we are seeing & reading in the  newspapers the cases of suicides.  My point is - new  syllabus should be  helpful to  increase the will - power & struggling nature of  the  students. Means syllabus should help students to fight the  circumstances.  Moral teaching,  brain tonic should be given through new  syllabus. We should  not  forget that our  students are valuable asset to  nation.  So the new  syllabus should be  focused on students' mental,  spiritual,  physical & intellectual  development.

Prof. K. S. Patil
I think being teacher we should not wait for these things to be incorporated in syllabus. These things can be taught in your day to day teaching as it is nicely called extrapolation and inferential way of teaching. Where students will be enriched with values common sense.critical thinking, general awareness and many more things it depends upon dynamic teachers and automatically responsible shoulders will be prepared.
So don't wait for these things in syllabus we need to serve these things as sausage with the main course of your syllabus.

Prof. Vaishali Jane
I agree with you.while preparing the new syllabus,B.O.S. should consider the students of rural areas where students are not interested in studies.Their economic conditions are  not good.It is also one of the reasons of their interest in study. They want easy way to pass .If the syllabus is vast,it will be difficult for us to complete within the limited period. So , some units should be reduced and also consider the  availability of technical facilities .
According to me application letter for job  is necessary . Though printed application forms or online forms are available, sometimes by hand  application is required .Most of the students can't write an application for leave. So an activity of application along with resume should be included.

Prof. Vaishali Jane: [11:02 PM, 5/5/2019]
Following  points  should be considered for the framing of the new text book .
1) Size of the text and number of units should be reduced.
2) Content should include Prose, Poetry, Rapid reading.
3) Two Rapid Reading and four or Six poems.
4) The new paper will be of 100 marks. So the boundary line students definitely find it difficult to score 35marks.So, I suggest 20 marks' objective type questions as the replacement for the oral.
5) Grammar should be asked in an easy manner. Multiple choice questions should be given.
6) All topics should be given importance.
7) Though there is not separate section in the text at present, it is given at the end of some texts.
It should be given separately in the new text book.
8) Separate topics of spoken English should be given in the text in the form conversations with various people, dialogue writing should be there.
9) Innovative writing skill topics should be as follows.
a) Dialogue writing by giving some hints.
b) Story writing by giving some points.
c) E-MAIL writing.

Besides these topics all other topics are already in the present syllabus. It should be as it is.
10) All types of grammar topics which are in the present syllabus are essential.

Apart from the above views, my own views regarding the next course book are as follows
1) Cover page should be attractive.
2) The text should be attractive by giving the colourful pictures relevant to the text.
3) Font size should be big.
4) Papers used for printing should be of good quality.
5) The size of the book as well as contents in it should be reduced.
6) The texts should be informative, inspirational and should also give the morals so that the students should become good citizens. The text book should not be exam oriented but it should be helpful for the development of students' personalities.
7) All the activities which will be asked in the exam should be given at the end of each text.
8) Vocabulary based activities should be asked on a large scale .
8) New syllabus should be prepared by considering the ground level students and also the students from rural areas where all the facilities are not available such as digital classrooms, electric supply, even network coverage etc.
Yes. All topics should be given regarding cultural, environmental, social problems , scientific and of sports. Biographies of great personalities should be given as lessons.
Now it is too late to stop the oral exam because I think the process of the new text book of 11th Std. is completed and the same pattern of100 marks will be followed in the 12th Std. So, there will be no use of our discussion regarding the oral exam.
I think our views should have to be taken before preparing the syllabus of 11th Std.
Now the changes in paper pattern are in our hands.
1)The activities like view - Counter views, News writing should be removed .
2) Activities on the writing skill should not be confusing like report writing and news writing, appeal writing and leaflet.
3) Some grammar topics should be removed such as Clauses,  Transformation of Simple ,complex and compound sentences, change the narration etc. because  these topics are time consuming which need more practice to understand for the students.
4) The instructions regarding the grammar should be given in an easy manner. e.g ask change the voice instead of 'begin the sentence with:, ask fill in blanks instead of Insert the articles or prepositions.
These changes should be done as per my views.
Thanks for giving a chance to express my views.

Same activities are given in std Tenth English books which are ideal for the students as well as ideal book
Live English section should be given separately in writing skill just like std Tenth.
While framing the std 12 the corresponding English should be avoided
There should be enough spl waitage for grammar and vocabulary skill
There should be spl section for appreciation of poem.
Rapid reading should be discarded instead of them some moral stories lessons should be included.
In vocabulary skill some puzzles should be introduced.

Prof. Snehal Makanwar, J B. College of Science

1 The textbook should include lucidly written inspirational sucess stories of real life strugglers/common kids, men n women from different backgrounds who achieved significance n excellence with their special efforts.
2.It should include situational texts where students should get an opportunity to role-play those situations.Let teachers be the skillful facilitators.
3.Contextual Grammar should be prepared in such a way so that students may find it useful for many competitive examinations in future such as NDA,BITS PILANi,CDS,UPSC/MPSC n many such examinations.
3.Activities on Spoken English and soft skills should be included after each lesson, poem n rapid Reading unit too.
4.A system for interdisciplinary strictly confidential evaluations by various external subject  teachers of English from different schools/colleges for  the award of 30 marks based on the assessment of LSRW ( on the textbook)of the students. It will give impetus to the Personality  Development of the  students and importance to English teachers.
5.Learning with Fun through Music,Movies and Songs. One such item should be included in each of the 6 unit.

Thanks All of You.

Moral issue among students, new opportunities in the field of technology, patriotic  issues are also important.

Prof. R.N.Dhaigude
Number of prose lessons  shold be reduced..
Prose & poems based on activities  should be introduced...
Pictures & charts should be there for best understanding..

Prof. C.J.Patil
First  size of the  textbook
Second interesting and  useful  material
Current textbook  is  so vast that  no one  can  complete  all the  activities.

Prof. Sandip Pawar
If you don't mind I want to express my views - Number of units should be reduced, All the written communication topics should be involved in the text book , text book should be consist of activities as per the board exam paper.

Prof. Sachin V. Pawar
Without adding more and more lessons , add which will be improve English of students.

Prof. Sachin Korde
Focus should be given on Functional English and speaking skill!

Prof. Nahate Sir
We,the english language teachers  , know the difficulties & challenges before us while teaching  in the class room.
Now it is obvious that the course book will be learner centred. It is very good thing for us as well as for the learners.
Some expectations.
* Course book should not be vast.
*Maximum it should be of 150 pages.(for 11th& 12th )
(Now the course books are too much vast)
*Rural area student's  capacity shouldn't be ignored.
* Poems should be 5to 6.
Rapid reading 3to 4.
Prose 12to 15.
Then there will be adequate time to deal with.
Lesson should be on great Indian personalities.

Prof. Sachin V. Pawar
We should keep our coursebokm pages similar to other languages(Marathi/Hindi) course book
Course book should provide practical knowledge of English  language , learner should learn , on this basis book should be framed.
Grammar shouldn't be avoided ,it's a backbone & ornament of any language.
grammar(basic and higher topics ) must be added with 15/16 marks if the paper of 100 marks

Prof. Nahate Sir
To reduce the course we should prepare an application properly & should be submitted to the concerning officials for proper action.
Language teachers ' community should take initiative.

Prof. Birajdar Sir
Credit to grammar should be increased if possible.
Unfortunately, we are reducing it.

Prof. Anil Nhavi
There should be only 5 units.More scope should be on functional skills by which students will become prolific in learning language skills....

Prof.Ajay Patil
As far as our textbook is concerned I think first and most important thing is that we should reduce the syllabus of 11th and 12th. We start our teaching in June and we have to complete it till end of December. It is really very difficult to complete it . Second thing is we should try to select some simple and interested language text means students will get confidence while handling the language. Complicated text may reduce the fondness of english in students. We must not try to avoid grammar because unfortunately we reduced the value of grammar in new format. we should try to introduce them some simple grammar concept from different activities. Grammar topics should be  introduce in textbook only, with defination and other information about particular topic. Font of the text should be comfortable to read.

Prof. Birajdar Sir
Lessons or rapid readings must not be lengthy like
R. R. Number 3, 4, 5 XII.

Prof.Manjusha Sagrolikar
As far as our course book of 11th/12th has been concerned, each unit should begin with spoken activity,  developing speaking skills and knowledge of pronunciation. It should be designed with communicative approach, interactive manner.
In margin glossary, notes, clues for comprehending the paragraph should be included.
For example:
🍡Guess the title,
🍡What does the writer intend to say?
🍡Theme of the passage
🍡 Key issues provided
If literature has included as the part of unit there is no need of rapid reading section instead separate weight age must be given for " Business English". This session is beneficial for our learner's career.
For example:
🍡  Preparing advertisements,appeals,leaflets
🍡Emails for various purposes
🍡How to prepare write-ups , articles, blogs, book reviews, poem reviews for publishing in the magazines, social media
🍡 Drafting business letters for different purposes,
🍡Use of technology in our profession/business.
In this session learners are well acquainted with commercial/business language so inputs are essential for scaffolding.
Our learners need lots of exposure for using the language, They need sentence starters, lexical chunks, threads of structures. While selecting the generes this approach is necessary.

Prof. Sachin V. Pawar
Every lesson should inspire the students, they should learn new something from every lesson, reduce the lessons, poems and RR, it's too headache for both teachers and students, lessons should be related to everyday life routine , students can use that knowledge in their every activity and decisions.they must feel that English is window of the world.

Prof. Pachegaonkar G. S.
Rural  students are also there so frame such a syllable that they shuould also understand  new concepts, new methods. Rural students can not speak  english pr language also.. It is because  lack of facilities.. syllables should be students  centric... Frame live english activities.. only 4 units  are sufficient ..

Prof. Ramkrishna
Dear all, whatever may be the size and length of new syllabus for xi & xii std., but one thing is very necessary to be cocknsidered while designing it i. e.  Content should be taken in such way which will enhance the moral and ethical values among teachers and students.  Friends, I think this the urgent need of time as already our society is so much demoralised. Syllabus should promote ideas which will make students and teachers humanatarian rather than  the person with selfish ends. I am not the person with negative mindset. But I can bet our values are lost. We all, alongwith our education system, are responsible for this downfall. Most of the baels (oxen), sorry to say,  have entered in this field to make mess of it.

Prof. Ansari Zahid Akhtar
It's the responsibility of our educatiinists to develop a syllabus suitable for making our students good citizens.... Rather than illiterate and irate mob.

Framing new text book is a very important task which must be given profound attention & a great deal of deliberation. It definitely requires suggestion, support ,views & opinions & experiences of the people in teaching fraternity.
The supreme objective of the text book is to provide good qualitative reading & teaching material to students & teachers respectively & to develop language skills of students. While choosing any lesson, poem ,& rapid reading part ,this objective must always be kept in mind. Before choosing anything to be included in the text book, framer must ask himself or herself.
Will it help to develop language skills of learners?
Will the substance or content of the text boost the morale & morals of the learners?
PROSE:
The language of prose should be lucid. It should not be turgid & pompous. It should not go over the head of the learners.
A framer must ensure that the lessons must have different forms of words i.e nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives etc. They should contain variety of sentence structures or sentence patterns, beautiful phrases & idioms also. It is because they lay the foundation of language & every learner of English language must know about them.
Instead of including lesson after lesson in every unit, we should include poem, lesson, interview of any famous person whom students actually know & want to know more about him or her, any good story, an essay having simple philosophy ,conversational prose etc. Interview, one act play, prose in conversational form contain beautiful words, sentences, questions which are spoken in our day to day life. Students easily grab these words & sentences & use them in their spoken English. There has to be variety in reading materials so that it should not become dull, uninteresting or monotonous for the students in particular as well as teachers in general.
POEM :
Eight units are okay. Every unit should contain one poem compulsorily. The poem chosen must not be a translated piece of work from other languages. It is because "Translation of a literary work is as tasteless as a stewed strawberry. "We have "Suburb "in our present text book which leaves a lot to be desired.
RAPID READING:
There should be only two items in rapid reading section.
GRAMMAR :
If language is a flower then without grammar, it will not smell. I personally believe that parts of speech should be given due place & recognition in next syllabus along with other grammar. Without knowing parts of speech, learners can’t enjoy beauty of language .Students of English must be able to understand & identify every word in a sentence.

Prof. Chaudhari sir L. N. N. H. V. jr. College: [6:19 PM, 5/7/2019]
Dear Sir it’s my humble request to those who are interested and trying to frame new syllabus for jr college students ,it is important to see that are they completing whole syllabus in their respective class and do they completing it given time with all given language activities?
I have been asking all these masters of English Subject(who are framing syllabus)pl think about your English Knowledge when you were students of 11th and 12th STD students

Jr. College English Teachers' Group 7 (Discussion)

Prof. U.S.Patil
Our book should be like
New books of 9th and 10th
There should be space for activities.

Prof. Jagjit Kaur Madam
I agree to the point that text for XII should have less number of units but more of activities for each chapter. Quality of every chapter should be such that maximum grammar and vocabulary can be covered while teaching a particular unit.

Prof. Vijay Gholave
some contents should be on Indian culture and  heritage in the textbook as Anant Pai said.

Prof. Ajay Mankawade
Preference should be given to Indian writers.

Prof. M. Saqlain sir
I am fully agree with the views of Respected Tushar Sir that textbook should deal with modern technologies & inventions but besides all these the textbook should also teach that we should not fall prey to evils of social media (fake posts) such as spreading religious hatred messages, videos etc. Respect of teachers, women as well as how students can play a important role in nation building should also be there.

Prof. Sudhakar Kirmire
I think  new text book  for std11&12 should not be so lengthy. There should be only six units & four rapid readings.

Prof. Sandip Deshmukh
Present text book carries 8 unit 5 RR 8 poems writing skills unseen extract summary writing note making n grammar n time is very few ...it is very hard to teach within ltd time period so textbook should not be so lenghthy.

Prof.Avinash Jangam
What about new pattern
Now we have 80/20
What next
Do consider rural students.

Prof.Ashish Chitmulwar
The text should always have Line numbering so that it will facilitate  pointing to a particular sentence word or phrase.
The textbooks should be handy not bulky.

Prof.Shivani Pednekar
The text should  not be too lengthy . Focus should be on the objectives to develop the language of the students. We must compair our book& Marathi,Hindi book. Even we should see the books of F.Y,SY,T.Y of senior college they are very interesting. Even if you see the books of Karnataka 11th,12th you will notice the difference.   In two years of junior college at least students should  communicate in English language.

Prof. Shraddha Misar
4 to 5 units and Rapid reading is enough for activity based syllabus.Size should be easy to carry.Lines should be numbered and font size, space between two lines should be increased.

Prof. Manisha Chande
The text should be value based for student .

Prof. Umakant Mamile
Textbook size should be lessened (no. Of prose, poetry&rapid). The teacher will get time to guide pupils. Activities should be provided because many students can not attend the lectures due to their economic problems. They will also get idea of the various activities. Lessons should be stimulate pupils thinking. Media is needed but it badly affecting pupils so pupils come to know bad effects of media. Texts should be taken which includes cultures, traditions, heritage, moral &get inspiration.

Prof. Dhanaji Patil
I think the syllabus should be limited. 5 units and 4/5 Rapid reading lessons are enough because we have limited period. If syllabus is lengthy, students don't get much time to develop their skills which is the purpose of syllabus.
The syllabus should be informative as well as entertaining the students.
The length of the lesson should be limited too and book should be attractive.
The mentality of rural students should be taken into consideration.

E-MELTA @5 for Jr.College

Prof.Manasi Dhamapurkar
1. Arts students should be considered while rearranging the textbook.
2. There should be a limit of grammar topics; we have to teach them from tenses to complex sentences for few marks.
3. Please try not to cancel oral exam.
4. Number of lessons should be like Marathi text book.

Jr.College English Teacher

Prof. Mr. Rajesh S. Kagane HJP college Himyatnagar Dist Nanded.
My suggestions as per following:-
1.Prose and poetry section should be different.
2.There should 10units contening 2/3 sessions.
3 lesssion should be only 2/3 pages
4. Different poetry section must contain 8/10 poems (80percent indian posts)
5.No inclusion of Rapid Reading.
6.Grammar should be on true/false or mcq.
7.Essay writing must include.

Thanks to all who shared their valuable views for the upcoming new text book.

The textbook must have a different section which highlights the spoken and soft skills of students and it must also include examples of competitive exam type english sentences . Some lessons must be there to guide about persnality development , motivation and most of the content should be with businessman approach

I think most of the points have been discussed. Don't want to beat the bush. What I feel is that the grammar which is non detailed needs to be made detailed so... We all can teach it even better and students will also be interested to learn it

In the present textbook of XI and XII, there are eight units in the syllabus. The number of units should be less in new syllabus framing. Each unit begins with a poem followed by three or four lessons. In new syllabus framing, the arrangement of units should be like this: 1) Prose section 2) Poetry Section 3) Rapid Reading Section 4) Communication Section 5) Grammar Section. It is so because the students can study systematically section wise. In the present structure of the syllabus, it is observed that the students get baffled while studying the syllabus. In my opinion, there is an urgent need to modify the arrangements of units to make the students’ concept clearer. The students can focus on communication and grammar precisely as a separate unit. Poems and lessons should comprise literature, culture, burning social issues, science and technology.

Mr. Sanjay Patil said...

I personally feel, the number of units should be reduced to 5. There should be 3 rapid lessons. Present text book is too bulky. Teaching all units along with grammar and writing skills within the stipulated time is almost unmanageable. 8 units including 8 poems and 23 lessons and asking only two extracts on them is not a proper ratio. So the number of units should be reduced. The syllabus makers should include more nice stories and a few informative texts with minimum length so that students can enjoy them. Let the students enjoy the literature. Besides grammar skills should be more focused. 20 marks oral exam has been cancelled from next academic year. So these 20 marks should be totally attributed for grammar section. As far as writing skills are concerned I don't suggest any more change. But in both formal letters one should be application letter( not just for job).
