Suggestions for Std.XII New Text book

Prof. Tushar Chavan 

1) Include more Indian background topics in the text book.

2) Include interesting and relevant to present time topics.

3) Do not include lengthy Prose topics.

4) Poems should be based on Indian atmosphere of present time.

5) in rapid reading section, include short interesting stories

6) Include the topic of novel just for introduction because if any novel is included, it will be lengthy.

7) For evaluation - In writing skill section, give only two options. In Std XI, many options are available so students neglect the other options and concentrate on only one. e.g. Expansion of ideas, blog writing, film review. Here students concentrate only on one topic and neglect others. So give only two options and there should not be predictability.

8) Try to add practical work based on e mail writing, blog writing, view - counter view, interview, speech and compering. These topics are good for practical work. If students do these activities in reality, they will be given marks as per their performance.

It is not good that e mail, blog or compering are written on paper. These topics are good for practical work.

So I suggest 10 marks for oral and 10 marks for practical work. Computer or mobile phone can be used for e mail or blog page writing. Other topics can be judged in actual situations.

9) In grammar add MCQ section. There should be separate section for grammar. Grammar questions should not be based on the given extract. Here teachers will get freedom to use various types of sentences. It's nature should be like that of competitive exam.

10) In the text book separate grammar activity section must be included for the practice of students.

Sir, I think there should be proper link between the modern and the ancient or medieval period. I mean Pre-independence and post-independence literature. Because our literary works are the best. The text should not be lengthy and boredom. M C Q questions should be included.

📖 Prose section :

@ Prose articles should be related to Indian surrounding.

@ Prose articles shouldn't be too lengthy.

@ Prose articles should have enough scope for grammar and vocabulary activities.

📖 Poetry section :

@ Nice structure is followed in 11th text book as 6 poems with some information about poets. The same structure can  be observed.

@ Brainstorming activities should be reduced . These activities should facilitate the student to comprehen the poem in deep.

📖 Writing Skills section :

@ Particular examples (2 or 3 not just one) should be there for each topic  to clear the picture for students.

📖 Section Four:

@ Articles should be short and compact with particular one massage…

There should be following Sections :

1) First= Poetry

Short poems followed by Activities

2)Second.. Prose

It should include extracts only as in MPSC syllabus . Now we must avoid long prose lessons.. 🤣How many students read total text and understand moral?🤣How many teachers used activity based methods in class rooms?? So many non-teaching work we do in schools, colleges.

 So it is better to select moral, informative twenty extracts about 250 -300 words with practice activities.

3) Third..

Grammar

activities .

MCQ type activities on 5 to 11 std grammar notes.

4) Fourth.. Literature ,literary genre /Literary Terms  for simple and short answer activities

5) Fifth.. Communication skills

a)Formal/informal Letters

b) email /blog

c) pictographs /Film review

d) Programmes leading script writing /compering

e) Interview Q. /Speech writing

f) Note making /summary writing (independent extracts should given for this activities )

g) Story developing /Information Transfer

h) Short essay writing skills

( with helpful points )/

Original play in 11th standard i think students find it difficult . I don't know about our students in rural area.

Again separate rapid reading section should be there.

Preferably prose text should be short.

90 percent  textbook should have text related to Indian background.

In writing skill pl bring back application letter and tourist leaflet.

Our present 12th standard textbook is best. Hope same type of book will be there with 8 units and rapid next year.

4) I agree with you but some poems should be based on Western atmosphere so that students should get global knowledge.

5) I agree with you. Only two or three stories should be given.

6) I partial agree with you. But I think there is no need of introduction of novel at the level of 12th std.

7) In writing skill section , give only two topics including job application writing because it helps the students for their career as well as for scoring  good marks. Expansion of ideas and Film review should be removed. These two topics take more time to solve and average students are unable to solve it also.

8) Your idea is good regarding practical work but  due to some reasons it can not be applied in all colleges.e.g Blog writing and E mail writing need device like smart phone. Which can not be afforded by every student in rural areas due to their economic conditions. Apart from these topics, remaining topics should be there as it is.

We can take these topics for practical use such as view_counter view for debate, Interview questions, Speech, by organising elocution contest, Compering etc.

But I think ,for doing all these practicals more time is needed which we don't get.I think we get only complete six months excluding holidays and our leave to complete the syllabus. So, syllabus should be reduced  so that we get more time for practice.

9) I agree with you but it is also good which is at present in the text book of 12th std. It should be remained as it is.

10) I agree with you.I think, weightage on grammar should be increased because we have to teach the whole portion of grammar for less marks .For this more time is to be spent.

  In short syllabus should be reduced and weightage according to the difficulty level of activity should be increased .But I think the evaluation pattern will be the same as the pattern of 11th std.

1. Focus on Activity based grammar activities. Because Jr.college teachers are following old technique for designing grammar activities.

2. While selecting genre a page from " Teen ager's Diary" is necessary. Diary is one of the form of expressing feelings, problem solving. It helps teen agers to overcome all crises in their life.

Only legendary writers should not be taught. Common writers who are from simpler background must be considered. Think about "Elegy Written In The Country Churchyard"

There should be a manual along with the textbook that will help the teachers in explaining the text. It will also bring uniformity in interpretation throughout the state. Other boards provide such material to the teachers. It reduces confusion and ambiguity. It gives clarity to the textbook.

In my opinion, text book of 12th std.

1) must be easy to handle as far it's size is concerned.

2) while selecting topics, preference should be given to Indian writers instead of foreign writers

3) out of selected topics, some topics must be so simple and easy so that rural students may understand the content.

4) some of the topics basically written in Marathi but translated into English should be included such as 'Under the Yoke' in 12th and 'Bholi' in 10th.

5) Topics must not be too lengthy  for students to understand.

6) Topics highlighting present social issues should be included.

7 Number of topics must be less than 6 to 8

8) Poems  of Indian poets should be included

9) Number of poems should be less than 6 to 8

10) Instead of long poems, short poems with maximum 20 lines should be included

11) If possible, pictures related to the theme of the poem should be included so that ordinary students may understand the poem easily.

12) It will be good if number of dramas are reduced and some short stories are included.

13)  Activity Sheet

Instead of unseen extract, one more seen passage should be included.

14) while forming the activity sheet, wh questions must be used.

we may remove wh words from the activity sheet but we can never remove them from day to day communication  To get our students acquainted with Wh words, wh questions should be included.

For example

Instead of Give reason of getting late, Why are you late?   is understood by students

We use wh questions when we talk to students so why are they not included in the activity sheet?(yes we use them in interview)

15) Job application should be compulsory

Strong moral value based chapters and poems should be included. Focus should be on philosophical Indian literature instead of foreign. For foreign literature separate should be there. Indian philosophy is always good and also revered by universe. Writing skills which is outdated shouldn't be selected. More focus should be on personality development and direct communicative approach. External examiner should be there for oral exam for conducting the exam under proper examination conditions. Students will take it in a slightly serious manner. We all know what way  we do conduct our oral exam though some exceptions. Good day.

Yes. Poems having too much deeper ,hidden and complicated meanings  shouldn't be added for junior college students  which will take away the spirit of learners. Let the students enjoy the simplicity of the poems. Priorities should be given to the new poets instead of so called established poets. New perspective should be there which will increase the patience of modern students. Lack of patience results in so many harmful things to the society. BOS members should invite the literature made by active teachers who put their own experiences in it.

 We don't know whether the said points are taken into consideration or not. But we are hopeful. And nothing wrong in being hopeful instead of hope-less or less hope. Thanks.

The size of book and numbers of pages should be considered. Even while evaluating answers only English teachers have to give details such as  CAA. TPC. Why this painstaking task only for English teachers? Why is not for other languages. If the same pattern for all?  Another thing is set code.. ABCD for English only. This shows importance of English language compare to other subjects. Though evaluation is somewhat boring but someone has to do it. None can escape from it. Compare to science papers our English evaluation is challenging because our answers are subjective whereas science answers are objective. Marks in English may vary if evaluated by different teachers of English but this doesn't happen in case of science papers. Important point is that our top case is at 70, and moderators restrict examiners to do so. So English toppers are at lower step. Top case should be raised to 72 as that of other languages. Because of this proper credit will be gotten by English teachers. Few of us dedicate whole heatedly but unable to get the proper reverence as it is given to other teachers. We don't envy them but it is just a matter of fact and self-esteem and nothing more. We should work together, support each other and encourage our students by doing it sincerely.
