Know from Prof Vaishali Jane Madam

Know from Prof Vaishali Jane Madam:-

1) What is Register?

Register (noun) - An official list of names or a written record containing regular entries of items.

Register (verb) - to enter or record an official list or directory, to detect and show (reading) automatically.

E.g The electroscope was too insensitive to register the tiny changes.

Register - The type of language that is used in a piece of writing, the type of language used by a group of people who share similar work or interaction.
We change our style of discourse according to different situations. The appropriate language register to be used according to the audience (who),to topic (what),the purpose (why) and the location (where).

Examples of Register (type of language) (word Register)

1) Related to school-
teachers, students, homework, black/white/green boards, pen pencil, compass box, eraser, sharpener, lessons, chalks, tests, questions, answers, examinations, head master/ mistress, peon, clerk, desks, benches, playground, library, laboratory, classrooms, office  tables chairs etc.

2) Related to a bank-
Cheque, pass book, deposit, credit, debit, loan, interest, account, cash, cashier, manager, withdraw etc.

2) He is the painter of day
(Explain the use of definite article 'the' in the sentence)

In this sentence the definite article is used as determiner to introduce the noun painter.
Here ‘He’ refers to ‘God’ and the word ‘painter’ means ‘artist’. He is the creator of our lives. As an artist He fills the beautiful colours in our lives. He weaves the cloth of human life by using various colourful threads (threads of happiness as well as of sorrows). Human life is the blending of these both things.

The pen is mightier than the sword
Here pen is not used for all types of pens.
Here pen means writing which is more effective/powerful than the military power or violence.
Lokmanya Tilak used his pen to create wrath in the minds of the Indians against the British by writing the aggressive articles in the newspapers such as ‘Kesari’ and ‘Maratha’. That's why he is called the father of Indian unrest. His pen was mightier than the power of the British.
It is an instance of Metonymy figure of speech.

3) Impoverish:-
The word ‘impoverish’ itself is a verb. It means to make someone or something poor, lower in quality, to reduce to poverty.
The ‘impoverish’ comes from the old French word ‘pover’ means ‘poor’.
See the some letters of the word pover ty inside im pover ish.
Different forms of this word.
1) impoverish - verb
2) impoverisher and impoverishment - nouns
3) impoverished – adjective

4) Interesting Fact
The same word having different pronunciations and different meanings.
Resume (रिझ्यूम) (verb)_to begin again, to continue something.
Resume (रेझ्युमेइ) (noun)-a short descriptive summary.

(Summary of one's education, skill and employment when applying for a new job)

5) Uses of Would

Would is the past form of will. We often use 'would'  to report the past conversation. But there are its multiple uses. See below.

1) Polite request and offers.
(polite ways to ask someone to do something.)
e.g
a) Would you give me your book?
b) Would you mind giving me your bike?
(here, would you mind is a phrase.)

2) In Reported speech
e.g.
Anita said",I will bring the cold drinks?"
Ans- Anita said that she would bring the cold drinks.
(here, past form of will)

3) In imaginary situation
(present unreal condition)
e.g
I would move to France if I spoke French.

4) Repeated past actions.
e.g
When  I was a  child I would play hopscotch with my friends.

5) In second conditional.
e.g
If I had won the lottery, I would have sought a car.

6) In Same conditional.
e.g.
If I were in your place, I would refuse.

7) Sometimes the condition is understood.
e.g.
Someone who liked John would personally love his father.
Means.
If someone liked John, they would personally love his father.
(condition is understood)

Note-
We do not use would with stative verbs such as live, be, know, think, understand, want etc.

6) Use of Effect

1) Effect is used as noun, if you are talking about the result of something.

2) Effect is used as verb, if you are talking about the process of generating an outcome (result).

7) What is the difference between ‘the thought of the day’ and ‘thought for the day’?

I think both are correct but we frequently say ‘thought for the day’ which is precise way of expressing.

The preposition of shows possession .In this case the day does not possess the thought. So we can't say ‘thought of the day’.

8) Vocabulary

Ex-a) It is manner less to cut in while two elders are talking.
b)When I was talking with my mother, my younger sister cut in our conversation.

9) Difference between clause and sentence.

All sentences are clauses but not all clauses are sentences.
Both clause and sentence are made up of a group of words that contain a subject and predicate.

The main difference between clause and sentence is that a clause has subject and predicate but does not convey an independent meaning  whereas a sentence always conveys an independent meaning .It expresses a complete thought.

What is clause?

Sometimes a clause can act as a sentence but not every clause is a sentence.
Basically there are two types of clauses.

1) Independent clause (Main clause):-
An independent clause can stand alone and convey a complete meaning.
e g She didn't understand the lesson although the teacher explained it well.(dark sentence indicates main clause.)

2) Dependent clause (Subordinate clause):-
Dependent clause cannot stand alone and not convey a complete meaning.
e.g. I didn't buy that dress since you didn't like it. (Underlined sentence indicates Subordinate clause.)

What is sentence?

A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. It contains a subject and a verb/predicate.
(Predicate the whole sentence from the verb  excluding subject.)

Sentence can be categorized into four types based on its function.
1) Declarative 2) Imperative 3) Exclamatory 4) Interrogative.

Clause can act as noun, adverb or adjective.

Sentence cannot  act as noun, adverb or adjective.

(Note: Fifth type of sentence is optative means those sentences which are based on wishing. E.g. May God bless you.)

10) Antithesis, Oxymoron and Paradox:-

1) An antithesis:-

An antithesis is a figure of speech in which two opposite ideas are used in a sentence to create a contrasting effect.
(Antithesis - Anti means opposite and thesis means ideas)
e.g
a) United we stand, divided we fall.
b) Many are called but few are chosen.
c) This one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.
(Quote of Neil Armstrong)

 2) An oxymoron:-

An oxymoron is a figure of speech in which two contradictory or opposing ideas used in a same phrase. It is used to present a point more subtly for humour than by using a direct reference.
e.g.
a) The movie had a bitter sweet ending.
b) The rising Moon over the city dump presented a beautifully ugly scene.
Some more examples-
living dead, original copy, open secret, deafening silence, dark light etc.

3) Paradox:-

A paradox is a statement that appears to be contradictory but contains some truth (sometimes the statement can be true or untrue).
e.g.
a) Your strength lies in your weakness.
b) Your enemy's friend is you enemy.
Or
Your enemy's enemy is your friend.
c) Truth is honey which is bitter.
d) Attack is the best form of defense.

In Antithesis, Oxymoron and Paradox one thing is common that is contradiction but differ from each other.

11) Republic day speech for 2020

Very good morning to Hon'ble dignitaries, Respected teachers and all my dear friends, today we have gathered here to celebrate the 71st Republic Day. We all know that our country was ruled by the British for nearly 150 yrs. Many freedom fighters  fought against the British to break the shackles of slavery. Many Indian leaders such as Lokmanya Tilak,Lala Lajpat Rai,Pt.Nehru, Swatantra veer Savarkar, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and many more sacrificed their lives for the sake of motherland. Many revolutionarists such as Bhagtsingh, Sukhdev, Rajguru, Batukeshwar Datt were hanged on the stake.Non -cooperation movement in1920,Ouit India Movement in1942 were started under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. My purpose behind giving these instances is that we got Independence with great efforts of many known and unknown Indians.
India became free from the British slavery /we got Independence on 15th August 1947. Though  we got Independence ,we didn't have our own constitution. What is constitution? Constitution means a set of rules and regulations which is  essential for disciplinary administration of the government. Before  giving us Independence, the Cabinet Mission was sent in 1946 .The British appealed /challenged us to form our own constitution. And the work began . The Constitution committee and its Drafting Committee were formed .Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar was the president of drafting committee. He took a lot of efforts for preparing Indian constitution. That's why he is called an architect of Indian constitution. At last our constitution was ready after spending long  duration such as 2 years,11 months and 17 days. It was sanctioned/approved  on 26th  November 1949 and came into force/ implemented from 26th ofJanuary 1950.  Our country became Republic  from this day.So we celebrate 26th of January as the Republic Day every year.
     What is Republic?
Republic is a king less form of government that  has no morarchy and no hereditary aristocracy. In Republic ,the country in which the supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives .Now we are living in democratic India, free India. But we should not forget the devotion of the people who fought for the independence. I pay my tribute/I salute all the Martyrs / Patriots and give full stop to my speech.
Jai Hind !

12) Report writing on Republic Day

Report of Republic Day celebration
Kohli, 26thJan.
On the auspicious morning of 26th January 2020, Junior College, Kohil celebrated the Republic Day in the college's premises with a gaiety and patriotic fervor / with a great zest. The Principal of the college Miss Wankhede Ma'am presided over the function. The secretary of Kohli Rural Education Society, Mr.Babasaheb Lande was invited as the chief guest of the function. All the teachers, students and the respected citizens of the village were present. The ceremony commenced with the mass reading / collective reading of the Preamble. Then Tricolor/ National Flag was unfurled / hoisted at the auspicious hands of the chief guest. After that the National Anthem was sung. Some students delivered the speeches. Some of the students sang the patriotic songs. One of the girls sang a song – ‘e mere vatan ke logon,----Jara yad karo kurbani’ in a very melodious voice that created a sense of patriotism in the minds of the audience.
The chief guest addressed the students, "Today we are living in democratic, republic country. You, today's youth are tomorrow's pillars of the nation. So you should keep our nation safe /secure from every kind of danger and develop our country in every aspect. Our Late President, A.P.J.Abdul Kalam dreamt that our country would be the Superpower by the year 2020. Now the time has come. So it’s our responsibility to complete his dream/ to fulfill his desire. You should study hard and become the ideal citizens of our country. And also serve our motherland by doing your duty honestly. Whatever job you will have to do, do it honestly because “Honesty is the best policy."
Then the chairperson of the function delivered the concluding speech. Later on vote of thanks was proposed by the vice- principal. Prasad was distributed to the students and the program was concluded / ended.

Film Review

Film Review:- Dabangg 3

Q. Write a film review of any film that you have watched recently.
Use the following points:-
1) Story 2) Characters 3) Songs and Music 4) Action 5) Theme 6) Weak and Strong points 7) Special Features 8) Your opinion about the film.

Answer:-

1) Story:- Chulbul (Salman) spends his average day romancing his wife Rajjo (Sonakshi), troubling his brother Makkhi (Arbaaz) and fighting and reforming silly person. All is well, until he busts a prostitution racket and saves a bunch of girls, which angers the ringleader, the rich and powerful Balli (Sudeep). Cut to, Chulbul Pandey’s beginnings, a huge chunk of the first part of the film is about his younger days, his love interest – the beautiful and naive Khushi (Saiee) – and the circumstances that urged him to turn over a new leaf and become Robinhood Panday.

2) Characters:- Sudeep is menacing as the baddie, who is out to make Chulbul’s life miserable. The South actor has a great screen presence, which makes the face-offs between Chulbul and him impactful and entertaining. Sonakshi was seen as Rajjo but she doesn’t have much to do other than play the loving and doting wife. Saiee, who makes her debut as young Chulbul’s lady love, has a pleasant screen presence and is effective, but she could do with expressing more in the emotional scenes. Arbaaz plays his part well. Salman Khan is more effective and fit to show his larger than life image.

3) Songs and Music:- a long line-up of songs, of which, the memorable ones are 'Munna Badnam Hua' and the title track. Audience can hear chants of ‘Hudd Hudd Dabangg’ in the background. It increases the impact of the scenes.

4) Action:- The action is raw and solid, however, some action scenes (like Chulbul's introductory sequence) are unreasonably stretched. Dabangg 3' shows Salman in his element – throwing deadly blows at the villains amidst all the smoke, dust and fire, while. And those certainly will be paisa-vasool moments for Salman Khan's fans.

5) Theme:- Dabangg 3 ,the film, a prequel in part, traces Chulbul Pandey’s journey from a young man named Dhaakad to police officer Chulbul Pandey, and his fight with the demons of his past.

6) Weak and strong Points:- While the story is clearly predictable, in this one again, Salman’s star power, swag and style remain intact. There is an attempt to infuse comedy in the story, but it seems rather forced. The storyline is not cohesive and the narrative is loosely strung together. The film, with a runtime of 2 hours and 42 minutes, seems very long and could have done with a tighter edit.

7) Special Features:- Dabangg 3 is the third instalment of the 'Dabangg' franchise, and the audience is well-acquainted with the larger-than-life, lovable cop and his world. There are ample clap-worthy and seeti-maar moments in Prabhudeva’s 'Dabangg 3' for Salman Khan fans to lap up. Yes, he takes off his shirt, flaunts his well-toned, perfectly-greased body and beats up the goons to pulp.

8) My opinion about the film:- Overall, the film has all the ingredients required for a massy masala entertainer — good action, music, drama and, of course, Salman packing all of this in one story. The portions where the actor throws in comedy while doing hardcore action scenes are nicely done.

My Ratings for the film:- 4.0/ 5

Title of the film

Subject/story/ plot

Presentation/photography/music

Message

Answer-

A short film- Laddoo

Title of the film:

The title of the short film is ‘Laddoo’. The title is the important thing of the film. The story moves around it. The child wants to deliver laddoo to his grandpa so he is carrying them thought the film.

Subject/story/ plot:

‘Laddoo’ by the director duo Sameer Sadhwani and Kishor Sadhwani is the story of a curious young boy. As per the Hindu Rituals, it is believed an offering made to ancestors on their death anniversary reaches them through pandit but the young boy fails to understand how this happens. Even as he struggles to comprehend this concept, he is entrusted with the imperative task of delivering lunch to the pandit on his grandfather death anniversary. Being the curious person, he does not give up and sets out on a little adventure to figure out the answer to his questions.

Presentation

The presentation of the story and its theme is really noteworthy. In the form of the child’s thinking and dialogues, viewers get a clear idea of the story.

Photography

The photography is effective. It shows the emotions and journey of the child to fulfil his queries.

Music

Being a short film, there is no scope for songs. The background music is supportive to the story.

Cast:

Kumud Mishra - Maulvi

Kabir Sajid - Kid

Mansi Parekh - Mother

Rajkumar Kanojia - Begger

Alok Pandey – Watchman

Message

The short film ‘Laddoo’ is a food for thought. The film gives a message that no matter the name we choose for God, Bhagwan, or Allah, they are all the same indeed. The strength of the film lies in its writing. The innocent questions of a child remind grownups the truth they have forgotten while raising imaginary walls and boundaries on the basis of religion. As per my opinion 'Laddoo' is a very good short film.

Discussion: How to teach Drama

Discussion Topic:-

How do we teach 'Drama'?

Prof. Tushar Chavan

1) Read each line and explain it.

2) Tell the story and give information of character sketch, plot, theme, setting and specialty of the drama.

3) Show video clips/PPT of the drama.

4) Give memory test to the students.

All are requested to share your views about this topic.
Give your ideas to deal with drama section.

Jr. College Eng Teachers’ Group 1
Prof Mahajan Sir, Badalapur: [8:57 PM, 12/12/2019]
1) First have the group discussion on the name or title of the drama. Let them guess what the drama is about. Ask them to justify their guess. Ask them to explain why they think so. Make a chart of their guesses. At the end you can tell them the correct guess. Congratulate the winner. Extend the activity. Tell them to inculcate the habit of guessing with the names and themes of the films. They will definitely love it.
2) Characters: Ask them to list the characters. Let's have discussion on the significance of their names. Discuss their relations, their actions (I mean what they do) and their thinking.
3) Setting: Discuss on the places, surroundings, situations and timing of the happenings, significance of the settings. Discuss how setting contributes to the development of the theme. Symbolism used in the settings.
4)Theme.....
5)Dialogues......
6) Language....
7)Moral Vaues
etc

Prof. Tushar Chavan [9:11 PM, 12/12/2019]:
To Prof Mahajan Sir, Badalapur,
Your suggestions are good but how will the students know about the characters, their relations, significance of their names etc. without reading the drama. Do you think our students can tell these things reading the drama. Please give practical suggestions. These suggestions are good but I think it is impossible to use them in the actual class. Most of the students are very poor in understanding.

Prof Mahajan Sir, Badalapur [9:16 PM, 12/12/2019]:
I know without reading it is not possible. They have to read.

Prof. Tushar Chavan [9:18 PM, 12/12/2019]:
Do they understand the language of Shakespeare? It's old English.

Prof. Manjusha Sagrolikar [9:16 PM, 12/12/2019]:
I discussed about characters, theme, plot, setting and events. Then provided sufficient time to read and select the roles. In front of the class students performed. My students enjoyed this role play activity.

Prof. Tushar Chavan [9:20 PM, 12/12/2019]:
To, Prof. Manjusha Sagrolikar,
Is it possible to do role playing in the class having more than 100 students? How do students remember the dialogues? Is it practically possible in each class - Specially arts faculty class?

Prof. Manjusha Sagrolikar [9:25 PM, 12/12/2019]:
Sir, my class is also large, with 98 students.  In role play students can use book. So it doesn't need to remind dialogues.

Prof. Tushar Chavan [9:30 PM, 12/12/2019]:
Good. Please take its video recording and share for all. It will be beneficial to all.

Prof. Manjusha Sagrolikar [9:33 PM, 12/12/2019]:
Yes, in the next week students are going to perform with dressing. They don't want video in uniform. So I haven't posted it yet.

Jr. College Eng Teachers’ Group 2

Prof. G J Atram [5:05 PM, 12/13/2019]:
While teaching Drama we can use ppt to show and narrate the story in short and can also explain characters, plot, theme and setting in the drama.
A few dialogues or scenes can be enacted by some students.
But all this is possible only if students have developed aesthetic interest and students' maturity in various aspects like language, emotions, literary understanding etc.

Prof Swati Tribhuvan [6:01 PM, 12/12/2019]:
I read each line of drama.
Tell story and give information of characters, plot, theme etc.
Give memory test.
It's interesting to teach.

Prof Patil V. R. Cidco Jr college Nashik: [7:14 PM, 12/12/2019]
1. Introduction of the characters.
2. Narration of the story of the drama in short with the description of characterization.
3. Reading aloud the drama with active participation of students.
4. Introduction of New words, concepts, phrases, idioms accordingly.
5. Discussion about the theme of the play.
6. Clarify questions and doubts of the students.
7. Questioning to asses the understanding of the students.
8. If possible, give chance to role play to the students.

Prof.Manjusha Sagrolikar [9:13 PM, 12/12/2019]:
I discussed about characters, theme, plot, setting, and events. Then provided sufficient time to read and select the roles. In front of the class students performed. My students enjoyed this role play activity.

Prof. Tushar Chavan [9:22 PM, 12/12/2019]:
I don't think role playing is possible in each class - Specially arts faculty class.

Prof.Manjusha Sagrolikar [9:29 PM, 12/12/2019]: My students are from Art and commerce faculty. I discussed with them how to pronounce new words, help them while reading. Unless we motivate them to read out how can they develop their confidence? In my class I received positive response with role play.

Prof Vidya Thakare [9:34 PM, 12/12/2019]: Good ...
But u r from city area.. Not possible at tribal. Specially at peth surgana ...

Prof.Manjusha Sagrolikar [9:35 PM, 12/12/2019]:
No mam, my students are totally from rural area, purely from farmer's family

Prof Vidya Thakare [9:36 PM, 12/12/2019]: I tried it ..
But not responded by students..
They became shy to come forward....😔

Prof.Manjusha Sagrolikar [9:36 PM, 12/12/2019]:
Most of the students do to and fro from nearby villages.

Prof Vidya Thakare [9:37 PM, 12/12/2019]: Same here too mam

Prof.Manjusha Sagrolikar [9:38 PM, 12/12/2019]:
One benefit is my school is girl's school and girls are always sincere and honest

Prof Vidya Thakare [9:38 PM, 12/12/2019]: I'll try it again...S that's true mam ...But my students are so shy....They can't take interest to talk in fornt of students.

Prof.Manjusha Sagrolikar [9:41 PM, 12/12/2019]:
Yes mam. Try with book. Allow them to make mistakes, you can correct it afterwards. They'll practice it at home.

Prof Vidya Thakare [9:42 PM, 12/12/2019]: S.. I think I have to take more effort for them.

Prof.Manjusha Sagrolikar [9:44 PM, 12/12/2019]:
Problem is with unknown words, how to prononce it. Once they learn it from us they can do reading practice at home. We can ask them to prepare themselves at home . And next day they'll perform.

Mrs. Rutuja Deshmukh [4:55 PM, 12/12/2019]:
I feel the second point is more suitable.  To understand what is drama. How to learn stories, It will help to improve writing skill.
We can give questions about character, summary,  theme, Symbols.
This will help to change their look out towards language studies.

Prof. Raju Maruti Phutane [8:25 PM, 12/12/2019]:
In Section 4 Drama  students are expected to write about the plot, setting, theme etc. To make the question tougher, there will be no extracts. Will some of the students who are unable to construct a single sentence specifically rural area students write the answer of these questions?
Generally students learning in Arts and vocational wing can't write their names and addresses correctly how can they attempt these questions?
Even if we give them readymade answers, I am doubtful about their performance I am raising  the question because some of my students are intellectually very poor.
Believe or not, but with the help of 20 Mark's oral test, they have passed 10th with average marks.
Please help me by telling in which way should we teach them dramas so that they may get some marks in the exam

Prof. Dhanaji Patil Athgav Kongaon [8:30 PM, 12/12/2019]:
This is a real fact sir.

Prof. Mrs. Rutuja Deshmukh [9:30 PM, 12/12/2019]:
A real fact, and completely agree.

Prof Seema Dandekar [10:16 PM, 12/12/2019]:
I think 2, 3 and 4 issue seems right, but can you still do students in the countryside?

Prof. Tushar Chavan [12:07 PM, 12/13/2019]:
Yes. I think, 'Read each line and explain it' - is not possible for dramas because they are much lengthy.

Prof. Raju Maruti Phutane [12:36 PM, 12/13/2019]:
It is better to summarise highlighting setting,  attributes and various aspects of characters rather than going through line to line .

Mr. Sudhakar Kirmire M. J. F. Jr. College Ashti [1:31 PM, 12/13/2019]:
I think we should firstly acqint the students with characters& their qualities. Then summerize the theme & set activities to solve in group.

Prof Sayeed Saipan Saheb Solapure [5:40 PM, 12/12/2019]:

Sir I will divide the groups of the students in vivid characters. As well as their dialogues with body language. First plot ,characters, theme etc.

Prof. Sneha Ratnaparkhi [10:27 AM, 12/12/2019]:
I think first of the students should be introduced to drama as genre of literature through examples of classic drama( at least Elizabethan drama) along with regional drama. Regional drama creates interest in the form as the dialogues are easily understood.
Then gradually plot, setting, characterization can be explained.
Through role play students to be involved in the plot and teacher can only be facilitator by giving outline of read part of the play.
If possible same prescribed play can be shown in the class. Teacher can even keep the discussion go on after each scene related to the theme and characterization.

Prof. Adat V. S. from Kolhapur [11:04 PM, 12/12/2019] :
First of all ,tell the students the story in short. Then make  the list of characters as major and minor along with their roles. Then discuss about plot, characterisation, places of happenings, then the twists and turns. The arrangement of theatre is also told. Afterwards make the students read out the dialogues loudly as role playing. Then discuss about theme and message and contemporary plays, along with their history. Then ask the students to make notes on particular points.

Prof. Adat V. S. from Kolhapur, Jr.: [11:09 PM, 12/12/2019]
The social siruation must be known to the students.

Prof. Tushar Chavan [5:14 AM, 12/13/2019]:
Do you think we get sufficient time for role playing? Are the students ready to Participate in such activities? Your suggestions are ideal but they are not easy to implement in the limited time of span that we get. Isn't it?

Prof Sneha Ratnaparkhi [7:46 AM, 12/13/2019]:
Yes sir.... Mine is a girls' college and it's a heterogeneous group.... Yet role playing is implemented.... I don't intend to mein actual play being performed.... It's only reading part which is mentioned here by another teacher as well..... Teacher should not read each n every line.... That's what even the writers and editers expect from the teachers of the new textbook
