Direct and Indirect Speech Examples:

Make indirect speech

1) "May you live long and prosper", said the mother to her son.

Ans: The mother prayed that her son might live long and prosper.

Or

The mother wished her son that he might live long and prosper.

Or

The mother blessed her son to live long and prosper.

2) We said, " Many happy returns of your birthday",

Ans: We wished him/her many happy returns of his/her birthday.

Or

We greeted him/her on his/her birthday.

3) He said to me, "When do you intend to pay back the money you borrowed from me?".

Ans: He asked me when I intended to pay back the money I had borrowed from him.

4) He said to us, "Why are you sitting here and wasting your time?"

Ans:  He asked us why we were sitting there and wasting our time.

Or

He enquired us why we were sitting there and wasting our time.

5) "I shall remain here and the police won't be able to find me", said he to her.

Ans: He told her that he would remain there and the police wouldn't be able to find him.

Or

He assured her that he would remain there and the police wouldn't be able to find him.
